Stride Length Running

When I change my stride length for different running speeds on either the app or the dashboard it reverts to the previous length when I sync. I have a Surge and also a Blaze and this has never been an issue before. Have tried shutting down the watch and logging out of the app to no avail. Has anyone else experienced this?

@SunsetRunnerWelcome.. You did not mention if your synced after you updated your stride lengths, This is critical because normally what you are experiencing causes this.. No sync between stride changes.

Thanks for you reply Colin, technology can be frustrating sometimes! Turned out to be a software glitch, once I removed the "City" from my profile I was able to change my stride length etc. Discovered this by accident by checking my son's Fitbit which was updating stride length OK but we noticed he hadn't identified a City. When we attempted to add a City, the software wouldn't allow us and we got the error code An error occured when saving profile. I called Fitbit and reported the issue, will be interesting to see if this is an isolated or wider issue.

@SunsetRunnerThanks for the reply. That's an interesting one.. I have mine set to automatic location etc.. But, I still have the distance issue.

Today, it is pure domestics with the steps registered and dividing the steps into the distance I'm short by 10% on my actual walking stride.  I have set my stride length to +25% on walking and running.

I have proven over the weeks that the Blaze implementation does not follow the Steps x distance as outlined in Fitbits help document.

It does exactly the same thing if I set it to auto stride.

So the umpire is out in Engineering.. All documented and submitted.

Im having the same problem today. My stride length is incorrect as it always under estimates my treadmill runs. i have treid to change this today but like yourself on both my phone app and also on the full website everytime i change the figure it juts reverts back. When i actaully hit the submit changes button on my PC it keeps coming up with a red error message basically saying there was an error occured while saving my profile.

I have contacted Fitbit this evening about this and they tried to help for nearly an hour before saying they would need to pass it on to another team!

Since i have spoken to them i have however noted that in the settings im not actaully able to change any of the data at all either on my phone or the full website.

Is anyone else expercing this!?!

Hi just read this part of your coversation and have just removed the city also from my profile. Low and behold I can now also change my stride length!! Looks like they have a software issue that needs looking at!! Thank for that, I would never have solved it otherwise!! 🙂

You're welcome, solution was a lucky accident! Hopefully Fitbit will fix the issue before it affects more users.

@Dmthomas36Collectively we do wonders on the Forums and with some logic from @SunsetRunner he has come up with a excellent result.

I'm sure @AndrewFitbit has this in hand

Thanks @AndrewFitbit@Colinm39@Dmthomas36, the community works! I've removed my lucky guess as an accepted solution as (in reflection) I think it's more of a workaround and ideally, we need Fitbit to effect a permanent fix. While on this subject, I've noticed that while I can change stride length on my Surge during a run, I can't do this on my Blaze (which means I have to run the same pace on the treadmill if I want an accurate distance). I'm a sad individual and I keep a list of various speeds and stride lengths that work for me (I do a lot of training on the treadmill). It's not a huge problem but could be fixed by a software update maybe? Thanks again!

@SunsetRunner, @AndrewFitbit yes I totally agree with you it is not really a solution just a work around. Although having removed the city noe allows you to change all the other data on that page i have noted that I'm not able to put the city back in now as the webpage comes up with an error message each time you try and save the alteration. Seems there is an issue with that city box for what ever reason. Hopefully the Fitbit team will get it resolved.

i understand completely what you eman about the treadmill, it is frustrating and I detest running at the same speed as that makes it more boring than it already is!! What im trying to do is establish my average stride as I tend to flick inbetween high and low speeds. Im still experimenting at the moment but with the help of the distance calculator on my treadmill Im comparing this to what my surge says at the end of the run (up to date it has been under estimating) and then changing my stride length settings to try and find an accurate as possible setting for the next one. But yes totally agree I dont think you will ever get it spot on using the treadmill when you adjust your speed.... Good luck!!
