USB Device not recognized - Blaze

I'm getting a message that the device is not recognized when plugged into my computer for charging.  I did not get this when I first set up my Blaze.  Any suggestions?

@sivle56 Welcome to the Community! When you're charging your Blaze you should get the battery icon when it starts charging. However, after a few minutes you'll get normal display with the battery icon in the upper left corner with it filling up.

Please make sure that your computer is on, so it can be charged properly. You can learn more about it by checking How do I charge my tracker?

If you're having issues to sync then please try this troubleshooting.

Hope this helps. Let me know how it goes.

Your Blaze should sync via BlueTooth.  USB is just for charging so I would ignore the USB warnings.

Actually  @Greggebhardt both the Blaze and Surge have the ability to sync and update the firmware through the charging cable.

This is why the message of unrecognized hardware is being seen.

The Fitbit software wpuld need to be installed for the message to go away, but i agree just click through and dont worry.

My wife has a Charge HR, and  have a Blaze. The computer recognizes the Charge HR fine, but still fails to recognize the Blaze. I have the latest Fitbit software installed. I do note, however, that the software is installed in 'Program Files (x86)' rather than Program Files. Does fitbit not have Blaze drivers for Win7x64?

Welcome to the Community @johnmccash! Thanks for the details that you've mentioned. I would like you to make sure that you have the latest version of Fitbit Connect by downloading it from here. After this, please double check that you're doing this set up procedure

If you're following the procedure posted above but your Blaze is still not being recognized then provide me with a screenshot of the error that you're getting.

Keep me posted.

fitbit.com/setup does not give a link to fitbit connect. It only gives a link to the fitbit "app" which isn't the same thing.

It's great to have you here @Plastic_Jesus! The Fitbit.com/setup page will show the apps that you have available to download and if you scroll down it asks you, if you don't have a phone then you can download the Fitbit Connect. (See screenshot)

I have the latest Fitbit software installed and I get the same message.  I made sure that I have the latest Fitbit sofware installed.  This has happened recently as it was not doing it when I first bought the Blaze.  I do get the battery charging indicator when I put the Blaze in it's charging unit, but a few seconds later, I get the "USB not recognized" window.

I"m not sure but i think only a Windows 10 or Mac computers will be able to recognize the Blaze as a valid usb device.

Unless your trying to sync throgh the USB cable then i would not worry and simply close the window.

This happens because when the blaze gets connected to the computer, there is a charging and data connection. This feature is only an ootion with the blaze and surge, the other trackers do not have any data connection through the cable.

I've been using the fitbit surge with a wired usb connection to my windows 10 pc without issue for over two months.  however today i started getting the error message "usb device not recognized"  I use the wired usb connection to both charge and sync with the Surge.

Any technical help will be greatly appreciated.

Just tried this and it worked for me.  From the fitbit Surge user's manual:

To restart your Surge:
1. Press and hold the Home and Select buttons (left and bottom right) for 10 to 15 seconds until you see the screen flash or start to dim.
2. Let go of the buttons.
32

3. After your screen turns completely off, wait 10 seconds and then press the Home button to turn your Surge back on.
Your Surge should now work normally.

Thanks for that information. Unfortunately, I have a Blaze and not a
Surge. Your procedure did not work.

Hey there @starmanjb! You can follow this procedure to restart the Blaze. If the dongle isn't being recognized then please try changing the USB port and restart the computer. Also, you can check this Windows compatibility guide to make sure that your computer will work properly.

Thanks for your advice @johnplato

Let me know how it goes.

I don't know if this is the issue you have but I get the same message on my windows 10 PC and Blaze when I connect the charging cable to a USB 3 socket(normally blue). If I connect to a USB 2 socket it works fine.

Hope this helps. 🙂

After my last Windows 10 creators update, my Blaze stopped being recognized in Windows 10.  I quick reset of the Blaze by holding the bottom right button and the left button made it work again.  Battery life is back to normal as well.  Just in case anyone else finds this thread via google search.  I've also got it into a USB3 hub and it works just fine in USB 3.

Can we get confirmation from someone at Fitbit that the Blaze is only recognized when in the charging adapter on Windows 10, and not on Windows 7? If that's true, it explains my problem.

It's great to see you around @johnmccash! Syncing occurs while Blaze is in the charging cable. It only works in conjunction with the Fitbit app for Windows 10.

You can also sync your tracker with a compatible mobile device

Hope this helps.

Here is how to fix USB Not Recognized message in Windows 10

After the USB is safely removed from the port, the computer disables the particular port which might be the reason for this error message.

The currently loaded device driver has become corrupt or unstable.

Outdated drivers.

The external drive is entering selective suspend.

The USB controllers have become corrupt or unstable.

Outdated system hardware.
