Charge 5 battery draining too fast

I have had the new Charge 5 for 2 days. The battery discharges within a day. GPS is off, the phone is not set to always on. In looking over the troubleshooting instructions from Fitbit, it seems that you essentially have to disable all of the features that were selling points of this device in order to get decent battery life. Even my ancient Charge 3 got 6 days on one charge! Has anyone with this battery problem found a solution other than disabling everything?

Hi Lizzy,

This is only a temporary fix for me. I have to keep applying this fix. I would also like you to report to your team that perhaps it is the use of the "Walk" recording app (or some integration that uses the GPS). I generally keep my GPS set to phone. This problem only began happening with my Fitbit when I recently began recording the speed of my walks (it began about 2 weeks after). Perhaps sometimes, the program does not shut off the GPS even though you press finish and that causes the battery to drain? It's the only change in my use of my Fitbit that I can correlate with this problem. Just hoping to help your programming team. Please keep us informed. Thank you!

Hello!

I've just bought a new Fitbit Charge 5 and the battery is draining pretty quick. I read it can last up to 7 days but mine is roughly using about 50% in 24hours.

One thing I read that reduces battery usage was turning off the All-Day Sync but I can't for the life of me find it.

Any help is appreciated!

I’m having the same issue. Noticed my battery was about 86% before bedtime then this morning had dropped to 36%. That’s 50% in one night.

I’ve only had it a few weeks and it’s already died overnight multiple times, very frustrating.

With Bluetooth turned off, the bracelet lasted 7 days.

I don’t think having to turn off features to extend battery life is acceptable.  Not why I bought the Charge 5.

As @Bike-man correctly stated, you should not have to cripple functionality because of a bug or hardware/firmware problem. As many including myself have reported, you get 7+ days without disabling anything WHEN (and if) the Charge 5 is working properly. If you purpose this as a 'temporary or interim' solution until Fitbit solves the issue, in principle I would be on board, BUT ... its been more than 6 months without a solution so even then, this is not what people on this topic are looking for, we need a real fix and NOW.

Hi @Sysy95 and @Jdeuce  there is only All Day Sync, it will sync when there is activity to upload to the Fitbit servers.

What device are you using now?

I'm pretty fed up with this $150.00 piece of landfill and need to look elsewhere. I've done everything but stand on my head and rub my belly.   If I did my job like the Charge 5, I'd be fired.

All they want is for your to sign up for the $80.00 yearly sub.  Bet the battery works then... Just like most companies these days, it's all greed. The worst part is I bought two at the same time.

I am extremely disappointed in the charge 5. The battery drains unbelievably quickly. Also, why is there no find my fitbit app?

When I upgrade again I'll probably get an apple watch because this is so annoying.

I realize this was a tongue in cheek remark; for clarity same problems with the Premuim subscription. When my introduction subscriptions expires I won't renew and will see what stops working and might need to dump.

Is everyone doing this religiously, every time you have to charge?

  • "Press the button located on the flat end of the charger 3 times, pausing for 1 second between presses. Then wait 10 seconds or until the Fitbit logo appears."

If I don't do this, the battery falls off a cliff - I tend to do it at every charge, when it hits a fairly high % battery rate (it does not seem to work if you try to reset when the battery % is low.

Since I have been resetting, I get 5-7 days, which I am happy with.  Did start with a device from China, did replace it and got a Malaysian unit within the first few weeks.  Had my unit for around 6 months now (got it as soon as it was launched).

Its not right to have to do this every time, but it works for me.  And 3 clicks once a week.....

Hope this helps.

What did you switch too? I love the sleek look of this watch face and really only want for clock and GPS when running

Hi Alex, may I know how fast your battery drain daily? Just want to get more information on the speed of the battery draining. Also I assume you charge your battery when it is around 20%?

Best Answer

Drains daily. Most days. From 100% to the app notification at single digits.

Agreed. Time to move on to a better product.

Thank You for the info. It's my 3rd fitbit (the original being my favorite), but I've gone through ALL the suggested steps and you're correct it helps for about a week. Then, like a bad relationship, we're back to the same old thing.
I suspect if the subscription payment process stopped working I'd be fixed overnight... The battery issue has gone on WAY TOO LONG

I think you should connect the support to get a replacement or refund. Mine died on me on day 2 and the support offers me a replacement.

Good to know.
Imagine how fast they'd fix the online credit card processing system if that stopped working!
Oh look, my Charge 5 is at 30% after being 100% 7 hours ago. Thank heaven they're not an airline.
Cheers!

Hey Mamma... Haven't switched brands yet, but hoping too. Will start looking seriously soon.
I switched from American to Delta a while back, that was a good move.

Hey Recovery,
Did the replacement work any better? Most forum (here and elsewhere) posters say second and subsequent all do the same drain?

So the last time I charged my Charge5 was on the 20th - its now at 52%.  Over 20k steps each day - phone GPS - screen on manual.  But, its my 2nd unit and I have to reset via the 3-clicks on the USB cable every time.  I don't charge till its as low as I can take it - single digits.  Again, the reset does not seem to work until the charge % has risen quite high - and then it can take a few attempts to get the 3-clicks right.

Thanks Recovery.
I was poking around the internet and was looking at alternative company's products. Maybe Garmin. There are some up-and-coming too. Just Google, "better than Fitbit trackers."
Cheers!
