Charge 5 blank screen

Hello, my charge 5 has a black screen and will not display anything. I have tried resetting by pressing the button 3 times, it is fully charged, it is still recording activity onto my app but the display just will not work. I did use some water to clean dust from the device so maybe the water lock mode is enabled but I cannot disable it from neither the app or the device.

Can anyone help please?

To better assist you, please make sure you've restarted your Fitbit device as suggested here How do I restart my Fitbit device?. If the restart doesn't work try to change your clock face. If this fixes the issue, you can change your clock face back to the original clock face.

Thank you for your reply Maria, I have tried all the suggested fixes such as restarting, changing clock faces, fully charging, cleaning charging areas, etc but my screen is still black and will not respond to tapping and will not show any display whatsoever.

Yesterday I cut the grass and it got a little dusty and then I wiped it clean with a wet cloth and then the screen just shut down but my app say it is still recording activity so I am now stuck as to how I can get the screen working again.

Same issue here.  Fully charged with a black screen. Resetting does not work. The Fitbit will vibrate, but still a black screen.

Yep, exactly the same as me. So as the charge 5 display will not come to life at all there is no way to play with any other device settings.

How else can we get the screen to come back to life?

Same thing happened to mine. Plugged it in to charge yesterday, and when I pulled it off a couple hours later, just a black screen. Did the 3 pulse thing, all that, and nothing. The page says it’s charged, but the app won’t connect to it.

Beginning to question my commitment to sparkle motion, here.

My screen is black also. It is fully charged. I tried the reset by pressing 3 times, and tried resetting the clock face. None of this worked. What else can I do. Why is this happening to so many people at the same time? Thanks

Same issue here. I turned on water lock and went swimming with it (not the first time, and I never had problems before) and screen’s been black since. When I plug it in to charge or when I press the button three times it vibrates, and sometimes the Fitbit logo appears once or twice, but then back to black. It’s no longer connected to my app, and won’t reconnect, so I can’t change the clock face…

Same for me. Just had at talk with support on chat, and they offer me a full replacement. So at least they know that something is not right.

My guess is that they take it in, send me a refurbished/fixed one and reflash/fix mine if possible to send to the next one...

I also spoke with fitbit on chat and it seems to be a common problem, they offered me a replacement so hopefully it will arrive in a week or so, let's see....

Same with me . Black screen no tracking anything according to the app. Did the restart and nothing. I'm beginning to think the charge 5 is a lemon

My watch is completely dark can’t see anything on it it’s got a charge but not showing anything on the face of the watch

Mine was exactly the same, there is clearly a problem with Charge 5s, contact fitbit chat and they say they will send a replacement in 5-7 days

Unfortunately for non-US customers they don't have a chat only a Twitter handle with a "check the community board" message.  

Shame it broke within 2 months, I'll just send it back to Amazon and make in their problem.  

Overall I'm not impressed with Fitbit build quality, I had a Charge 4 that broke after 2 years - I would have expected to get at least 5 years - and now a Charge 5 that breaks after 2 months.

Mine is the same, black screen and will not restart, cannot do any of the suggested fixes. The problem seems to be widespread all at the same time, maybe there is something sinister happening such as a widespread hack?

For non-us users you can contact fitbit via the chat function in the help and support tab of the app, it is very easy and once you tell them all the suggested methods of trying to get it started don't work they agree to send a replacement directly.
2 months is well within the 1 Yr warranty period
