I understand your frustration with the non-responsive screen on your Charge 5. I've dealt with that myself.
The recommended troubleshooting steps are to restart the device using the charging cable that came with your Charge 5. Here are instructions on: How to Restart the Charge 5
The other step to try is changing the clock face. Here are instructions for: Changing Charge 5 clock face If this step is successful, you can go back to the clock face you prefer.
It may take several tries before you either see success or confirm you have a defective device. If you don't have success, the next step is to contact Fitbit support (<-- click link)
@Rvdoc , since your device is new, you may want to return it to the store where you bought it for a replacement or get a refund & wait until the Charge 6 is released in a few weeks.
