Update: I left it off the charger today hoping it would die and I could recharge it to get it working again, instead it's now stuck on an X symbol.

All of a sudden this morning my screen went blank. Tried everything they suggested even to the point I deleted the charge 5 thinking I could reinstall it. Would not install. I just get a red circle with a white X in the center.
fitbit customer service had me go through everything too with no luck. Thankfully I am under warranty but the told me they will send me a mailing label via an email. That I am supposed to print and send my charge 5 back to them. When they receive my defective one they will send me a replacement charge 5 and they couldn’t guarantee me I would get a new on.
If I am going to go through all these hoops and the replacement does not work properly I will not get another Fitbit. I’m not a happy camper right now especially after reading all these exact problems they have to know there is a major issue. I do not like Google anything so when I got notification about that transition I made up my mind right then I would never open a Google account. I was just going to wait until they told me I had to transition into a Google account. To get a different device.

Mine the same since yesterday evening

That’s what happens.
My original Charge 5 went black screen beginning of last year, fortunately it was still under warranty and they sent me a replacement.
Overnight 27/05/24 the new one has bricked. Tried all the reset suggestions again today nothings worked.
It’s still syncing to my phone so can get data but whilst that’s working I’ll be researching an other brand. Shame cos I liked the Fitbit but reliability and customer service is everything nowadays.

My replacement Charge 5 did the same thing sometime in the afternoon of Monday, May 20. It was at 100% battery on Sunday, May 19, 2024. Put back on charger Monday evening. Only response on Tuesday is the Fitbit logo, and a Critical 1% Battery picture with message to hook to charger. Have cleaned contacts, done 3-button reset and 10-second button hold. Fitbit logo appears and then black screen. Same thing happened the first week of January, 2024 to my original Charge 5. It was exactly 1 year old, so replacement was received on February 7, 2024. It is now DEAD. Time to change. Have been a Fitbit user since December of 2015.

This is exactly what I did. After going through all the steps the customer service had me go through (which I had already done on my own) they couldn't fix it so I'm getting a replacement (thank goodness mine was still under warranty). I hope the new one will last for a long time!

I hope when u get my replacement the same thing does not happen. All I know is I’ll never buy another Fitbit. With all the money Google has they should own up to the problem and send notifications to Fitbit users if the have this problem they should reply and a replacement will be sent. Google is nothing but a monopoly that all it cares about is making money. The way they track people is abhorrent. I don’t use Google anything except for a email I use when I don’t want crap email to me. I can delete everything in one easy press of the select all and delete.

My charge 5 went blank 5/22/2024. Was able to charge and get clock face back but does not swipe. Still records automatic data such as sleep score and steps and transfers date to phone app. Tried reset, change clock face, plug and unplug 3 times - no help. I did online chat with fitbit support, and they said they would elevate to a higher level of customer service - looks like everyone had same problem 5/22/2024. Hopefully a firmware issue, they issue new firmware and problem gets solved.

My Fitbit did the same last night (21/05/24), showed as fully charged but the time was about 20/25 minutes out. Then the screen went black and had remained so since. Tried the x3 reset on the charger to no avail.
**UPDATE** I have now cancelled my premium subscription as I am not going to pay for something I can't use. Maybe is we all do the same, Fitbit/Google will get the message and sort this sh** out!!

Mine died on 5/25/2024 after doing 11k steps! Constant buzzing, black screen. Worked with Diego via chat. After a half hour nothing was happening. It’s still black screen but minus the buzzing. Updated the app. I’m able to sync but of course there’s no data since Saturday. My daughter showed me the button to press on the flat part of the charger where the usb is. Crickets

Received the replacement Charge 5 within 48 hours of requesting replacement. It's working fine.
I appreciate FitBit/Google honoring their warranty, but I will never buy another Fitbit product. Will use this one until it quits but I hate the diminished monochromatic UI. If Apple offered a watch/tracker with the small/streamlined profile of Charge 5, I will buy it immediately.

I'm anxious to hear how things go with the Charge 6. I was reluctant to get one in case it would end up with the same issues as the 5. Since my 5 wasn't under warranty, they offered me a discount to purchase a replacement, but since it's only good for 30 days, I don't have much time to see how folks in my similar situation make out.

So I reported earlier in this thread that my Charge 5 was completely dead. No vibration, nothing on the screen completely dead. It was within warranty and they sent me another which is still working fine since I got it last Friday. This morning I hooked up the old one and I got the Fitbit logo and it started charging. Got all the way up to 100% and the display is working again. The date and time always shows 05/20/24 and 2:15 pm. It reboots on its own occasionally so something is still wrong with it although I don't know if that is because it isn't tied to an account presently so I tried to add it to the app using a different account than what this watch was using and I get a message when trying to add it to the app:
Cannot Pair
This device has been locked and cannot be paired. This may happen if a device is reported lost or if a warranty replacement has been issued.
So if you were out of warranty the thing may actually revive itself at some point but they lock the watch if you get a warranty replacement.
