Google/Fitbit should think this one through. I've used Fitbit Charge from version 1 to 5. If they don't take responsibility now and fix the version 5 black screen, I won't buy version 6 - I'll check other options!

Were they both Charge 5? I'm hesitant to move onto the Charge 6, so I'm gathering info to help me decide.

I had trouble with the device every single year, every single one. My first Fitbit message is from Jan 2018, so 6 years. I keep coming back because I'm a Pixel user and the smart watches are huge.

I had 86% battery last night about 11pm, slept for nearly seven hours, and after swim classes (in a pool, so nowhere near the 50-metre mark) of two hours, the logo appeared, began blinking, and then the screen went black. It won't turn on, although I can feel the hepatic motion when connected to the charger, and the battery reads 1%. I'm beginning to think that an update was forced out and created this latest snafu, but I am too tired to try to parse out what may be the underlying cause.
I've been using a Fitbit device since 2012, and they last for shorter and shorter periods of time, and all of them have had to be replaced due to issues such as this, which have nothing to do with how I am using or caring for the devices. I think I'm going to opt for something different now that I am shopping for a device again unexpectedly. I think perhaps the Oura ring, which provides elegant information and results in a titanium ring, and get a regular watch, as I am used to being able to look at my wrist for the time.

Fortunately I live in Finland and I found out I had one month left on my two years warranty. I got a Charge 6 in exchange by paying 10 € difference in price. Then i paid 50 € more to extend the warranty for two more years. Thought it would be wise after this Charge 5 hulabaloo...
