Charge 5 stopped working after getting wet

I went to a water park and turned on water lock. After floating in the lazy river a few minutes noticed my screen would not turn on. It was never submerged at all! I have tried connecting it to the charger and the reset button. I have tried double tapping and holding the sides. I have only had it 2 years! Help?

Hi there, @Amalthea100. Thanks for stopping by in the Fitbit Community Forums and for bringing this to my attention and for the troubleshooting steps you've tried. I'm sorry to hear that your Charge 5 is still unresponsive. I understand how annoying this can be, I will do my best to help you with this!

If your device got wet, it’s important to take it off and dry it well before putting it back on. On the other hand, if your device has come into contact with any liquid other than fresh water, you should clean it with fresh water and a soap-free cleanser and dry it with a lint free-cloth.

If you've done the above but to no avail, may I know if your Charge 5 vibrated during the restart process? If it didn't, I'd recommend trying the steps below:

  • Clean the charging contacts on the back of your device and the pins on your charging cable using the instructions in How do I clean my Fitbit device?
  • If the error "insufficient power source" appears on your device's screen, remove other devices plugged in to your power source, or plug your device in to another source.
  • Try a different USB port or a UL-certified wall charger.
  • Check the alignment and try reconnecting your device to the charging cable. For more information, see How do I charge my Fitbit device?
  • Restart your Fitbit once again.

Hello @Amalthea100

Do you know if you successfully disabled water lock? I found that it takes very firm & strong taps to disable water lock. Hopefully, you still have water lock on and once you disable it, your Charge 5 display will show up.

Thank you for the suggestions. I just tried the list of things you provided above. The screen is still black/won’t turn on. It did not vibrate when I tried to restart. So still not working.

It will not turn on, power on, or restart. My phone does not see it /can’t find it. So I can’t tell if the water lock is still on. I have tried double tapping and swiping in the hopes maybe it got dimmed and I just cant see the screen but I get nothing even with a restart. Thanks for responding.

I have had a Fitbit since 2013. They were great in the beginning. They worked and lasted. The last two have not been of the same quality. So many sync issues. Screen issues. The last one I had you couldn’t see the screen in sunlight, only inside, which defeats the purpose. Now this one barely gets wet and stops working even though it is suppose to be water resistant to 50m. Less than 2 years old. Not worth the money. If I can’t get this one working I will not be replacing it with another Fitbit that will stop working after a couple of years. Not happy with the Brand or product anymore.
