Low HRV

My HRV is consistently in the 14 to 18 range, even though I work out daily and I’m in good health! I’m going to change the wrist band to see if this gives me a better number, but as it is, it looks like I’m about to die! Is this an issue with the Charge5?

I get the same readings and, like you, I work out daily and am in pretty good shape, and good health - RHR 65 +/- 2 bpm, blood pressure 105/75.

And, like you, the first couple days I saw these low scores, I almost went to the hospital! Luckily, I calmed down...

Try this - in either the App Store or Google Play, search on HRV, or HRV Tracker apps, download a couple and try them out (most either give you a week or so of free data, or give you a limited set of free data) - take a couple readings daily, best time is when you wake up, over a couple days. I tried a couple of these, I found my HRV range was much more like I would expect it to be. For example, this morning, my FB5 shows an HRV of 13 ms (yikes!!!), and one of the downloaded HRV apps shows 69 ms (which, according to some sources, is extremely good for my age...).

Also note that to get accurate HRV data, you need to use a medical grade EKG monitor - make an appointment with your doctor if you are worried. If you want more accuracy with a consumer device, then your best bet is a high-end chest strap, i.e., not a wrist band nor your phone (in other words, I don't believe either of the data points above...). I no longer pay attention to the FB5 HRV readings, though, as per the disclaimer in the app, I would pay attention, and probably go to a doctor, if my HRV dropped precipitously - but even then, I would first verify with the HRV apps I downloaded.
