My Fitbit charge 5 stopped logging exercise.

I can't post my problem. Bot says I'm flooding. I don't think I am. It's list of suggested posts don't seem related to my post. Perhaps I missed something. For now, I'm trying resolution steps to the closest similar problem.

My Fitbit charge 5 stopped logging exercise monday. My last exercise session that was logged was on Sunday.

The device logs my sleep, steps and distance but doesn't log exercise sessions. I have it start tracking live exercises, it shows distance. When I'm done exercising, I click stop. But since Monday it hasn't logged any exercise activity.

I tried using the restart feature on the device itself, but that didn't solve the problem. I tried restarting the device using the charge cord while charging, but that didn't solve the problems. I've rebooted the phone several times. I updated the software. That didn't solve the problems. So, again I tried both restart methods, but those methods again failed to resolve the problem. I reinstalled the ap, did reboots.

Edit:

Since going through similar step of unpairing, now I can't get my fitbit to pair with my phones Bluetooth.

It synced even though I didn't compleat pairing. I tried to force stop the fibit app, but that seems not to work. I might not be doing things right. I'm now trying to uninstall and reinstall the app. I'm going to take a walk and see if it will log the activity like it used to and is supposed to.

Update. Still not logging the activity (walking).

Please help.

Thanks.

Hi, @UnfitBytes777 , welcome, there are presently several reports of exercise entries failing to register "Steps" This is an example -  Manual activities won't log steps, AZM and calorie... - Fitbit Community  The issue is being investigated.

You do not mention how you are registering your exercise with your Charge 5, are you using the "Exercise" feature on the device or are you just allowing the auto-recognise to record the event? I recommend the former.

You mention syncing with the app on your phone. Why won't my Fitbit device sync? - Fitbit Help Center provides guidance & advice.

If you do not think you are having the experience mentioned in my 1st paragraph then you should try a full reload of the Fitbit app on your phone (you do not mention the make, model or OS of your phone so I can only tell you how to do this with an android phone)  Go to your phone settings>apps>Fitbit>Clear cache>force stop>Uninstal>RESTART YOUR PHONE>reload the Fitbit app & if necessary re-pair the Charge 5. While doing this Put your Charge 5 on a "live" charging cable for at least 30 minutes and go through the restarting procedure again this Video demonstrates the two methods available to you.

I hope this helps, please post here again & let us know how you get on.

Cheers

What I'm calling “exercise”, is called “activity”

my Fitbit app has not recorded “activity” since Sunday.

The past I've tried “auto recognize” but mine doesn't seem to work for “activity”

So before my walks, I open up my app, click on the + button, track live, start exercise, walk, (wait for the GPS to get green bars), click the red arrow to start tracking my walk…. Then when I'm done with my walk, I click on the pause button, then click on finish and hold.

Usually it takes a few minutes to crunch the data, then it adds it to activity/exercise days. It also gives me a map of where I walked and a graphic display of how fast. It also has a summary of miles and steps, etcetera.

Sunday was the last day this process worked correctly for me. Though I initiated the walk on the application and it seemed to record the steps and miles and such on the main menu, it did not log the activity or exercise days.

It is still not working correctly.

I was having a similar problem this past week. I had recently turned on a VPN on my Samsung. I had tried the standard troubleshooting to no avail. Some of the more esoteric troubleshooting techniques looked promising. But before I tried that I turned off the VPN and went about my business for the day. To my surprise I had a walk automatically recorded with steps, time, calories, etc. I then manually entered another walk and all the categories were filled. I hope this continues to work. You may want to check your security settings.

Hi, @UnfitBytes777 Thanks for your update, I would have expected you to record your walk by using your Charge 5 rather than the Fitbit app on your phone. Swipe left from the watch face on your Charge 5 to "exercise" and then swipe up to find the best match for what you are doing. Note you can edit the shortcuts in the Fitbit app. You need to check you have HR set at the "On" position on your Charge 5, swipe down from the clock face to settings>swipe up to Heart Rate & ensure the slider is in the on position. Swipe up to and touch GPS and as you carry your phone toggle the setting to "phone". This is more robust for GPS as the phone has a larger antenna and battery.

If there is a delay in the activity appearing on the Fitbit app on your phone sync manually by sliding your finger down the "Today" screen of the Fitbit app and releasing it.

You should certainly explore the advice from @davidb531 .

Let us know how you get on by posting here again.

Cheers
