No sleep data on the Charge 5

I've had a Charge 5 for 2 weeks, replacing a Flex 2 which still works but I wanted visible data without constant synching. The Charge 5 works as expected except the sleep data on the wrist never shows data and today the days per week of exercise icon has disappeared. Hard resetting of Charge 5 doesn't help. The data show up fine on the app and dashboard which is what really counts so I'm not upset about this, I chiefly need movement reminders and counts of different data. This is an indication, however, that the Charge 5 isn't as robust as it is expected to be. But then there is the question, at this price point and with this level of complexity how robust can it be made to be, given how cheaply and carelessly things are manufactured these days. I've gone whole hog and ordered a more comfortable band.

EDIT: Just for fun I changed back to the orginal clock face and redid all the resets and restarts. Still the same so I went back to the clock face I was using which is easiest for me to read. The new band came today and is very comfortable.

That was pretty clear, the Charge5 is a huge disappointment overall.

Electronics are CLEARLY inferior then old versions, for example, the screen is less responsive to touch, has no altimeter, does not display when flicking the wrist (you have to touch tap the screen, which, as I stated does not work all the time), has problems connecting to the app because the connection is lost (weak Bluetooth electronics), battery life is worse than previous models.

I would say it is not as robust and obviously manufactured with inferior electronics hence careless manufacturing.

Definitely returning this and going with something more reliable... too bad I really liked my Charge 4, if it hadnt broke I would have never purchased the 5. And good luck finding a 4 now.

@edavis711  I could explain the usual easy fix for screen not waking with wrist turn, but it sounds like you have already decided to return it anyway.

I admit I have not given the 5 a fair shake, I did see how I can wake by selecting auto on screen wake.

However my screen is not very responsive - some options like DND and Wake don't respond when I tap it. I tried light tap, hard tap and reset both on the band and the USB method (3 quick clicks a second apart) however it didnt work, I still cannot select wake, its grayed out

Am I missing a setting somewhere else?

That probably means you are in 'Sleep Mode', in the same 'Quick Settings' section where I expect you saw DND and Screen Wake.  "Sleep Mode' is to prevent interruptions when asleep, overriding DVD DND and Screen Wake.  Read section below taken from Charge 5 manual (PDF)

I expect these have nothing to do with screen sensitivity.

As I posted before, my days of exercise per week icon mysteriously disappeared and the sleep icon stopped registering sleep. Today the exercise icon just as mysteriously appeared and both are working fine right now. I guess patience pays off. I didn't make any changes today. In the off chance the loss of the icon had something to do with changing clock faces, I reinstalled the original one and then that didn't work so I went back to the one that's more readable for me. I had also done the rebooting by cable, etc. routines. So now I know I do not have a bad chip or something, at least not one that's completely fried. On the whole I'd give this gizmo a 3 1/2 stars or maybe 4. It is after all a toy which we buy with discretionary income. And my lilac perforated band came! Pretty snazzy!

I'm glad you've got your data back.  My 4 did something similar in that it suddenly stopped showing sleep data, weight or days exercised.  None of these mattered as I look at the app for sleep data (more detailed), wasn't tracking my weight at the time and knew my exercise regime.  They all came back again after an update.  It was very odd.

I wasn't "able to resolve the problem." I don't know what caused it and it spontaneously corrected somehow.

Annoyingly, having same issues with sleep, on the watch, shows no sleep data.  Using the phone app, iOS, I sync with my watch and I see the sleep data in app.  When I get up I like to know how well I did, without having to go find my phone.

Hi, thank you for sharing that you're experiencing the same inconvenience with your Charge 5, @fbdan.

Just to confirm, in this case your device is properly tracking sleep and you're able to see it in the Fitbit app, but on the device itself you're not able to see any sleep information on the Today section, correct?

Keep in mind that sometimes the sync of the stats between the band and the app is not immediate. You might need to manually sync your Charge 5 on the Fitbit App or wait a little longer. Typically for me the Sleep stats appears on the device a good hour after they appear on the app.

If you're still having the same inconvenience, make sure to complete a thee pulse restart:

  1. Connect your device to the charging cable. For instructions, see How do I charge my Fitbit device?
  2. Press the button located on the flat end of the charger 3 times, pausing for 1 second between presses. Then wait 10 seconds or until the Fitbit logo appears.

@SunsetRunner Thank you for this update, let me know if you experience the same inconvenience again.

Have a good day.
