What does Mobile Track do?

I guess I'm not too sure exactly what Mobile Track does on my Fitbit Charge 5. Just wondering if someone could clarify if this is needed. It seems like when I "unpaired" it, my Fitbit lost bluetooth connectivity with my phone...or was it just a coincedence?

-What does it do?

-How does it affect my Fitbit's accuracy?

-Does it suck up battery power?

-Does it link my Fitbit to phone's bluetooth?

-Why does it have to have a notification on my fun to operate?

Looking for help on conserving battery power and I'm not sure what would happen if I unpair it.

Hi, thank you for sharing your inquiry about the MobileTrack feature, @Gpolly1.

To answer some of your questions:

  • This feature is mostly used when you forget your Fitbit device at home or you can't wear it for a period of time but you want to continue tracking your data. MobileTrack lets you use the Fitbit app without a Fitbit device by using your phone's sensors to track basic activity data including steps, distance, and calories burned. Keep in mind it does not track floors, sleep, or active minutes.
  • When you open the Fitbit app, your phone's data automatically syncs with the app. It's not recommended to use MobileTrack and your Fitbit device at the same time, as you could see duplicate steps.
  • MobileTrack uses your phone's sensors to track your activity and it will store your data for the last seven days, so it shouldn't affect your Charge 5's battery life.
  • The data recorded by your phone will sync to your account once you open the Fitbit app.
  • Regarding the notification you mentioned, could you please provide a few more details?

You can find more information about this feature here as able. In addition, if you're looking to save battery power on your Charge 5, please make sure that you've followed the steps provided in this articleThe battery can last up to 7 days; because battery life is affected by use and other settings, actual results may vary. Keep in mind that some of the feature that can drain the battery more rapidly are:

  • Built-in GPS (Charge 5 can have a battery life of up to 4 day when using this feature regularly, or up to 5 hours if you use it continuously).
  • Always-on display (Charge 5 can have a battery life of up to 3 days when using this feature).
  • Using an Sp82 clock face (Fitbit points out in this article that you may have to charge your Fitbit device more often when collecting SpO2 data).

Hope this helps, I'll be around.
