Google Wallet unable to set up

ANSWERED

Hello, I would really like to use the google pay feature on my Fitbit charge 6. However, whenever I am trying to set up a the card, when it sayings contacting/connecting to bank, it then says An unexpected error has occurred, please try again later. Then when I leave the google wallet tile on the Fitbit app on my iPhone, and re-enter the google wallet tile, the card appears. However when I check my charge 6, the card is not on the Watch. Has anyone else experienced this? And any fixes? I am on the latest update on the tracker, and I have tried multiple times to connect the card. (I am using CIBC btw)

I discovered and tested Google Wallet successfully synced and working on Fitbit charge 4, 5 and 6.  I believe it will work on all Fitbits with nfc. I did not use too much time in troubleshooting Fitbit Google Wallet/Google Pay. Advanced users should look at their network firewall and network packets to check for more details, Apple Xcode developer with virtual iPhone debugging and etc. I believe based on my knowledge of how iPhones work and communicate but the truth requires more detailed troubleshooting and understanding. Good luck for whoever provides the detailed information.

I had been using Fitbit pay on my Versa 3 for quite some time (Android phone). Switched to Google Wallet back awhile ago when we first received the notice about the change.  All was working perfectly. My Versa 3 died last week and I received a refurbished replacement today.  It all works great with the exception of me being able to set up Google Wallet. I keep getting an error message. "Unexpected error from Versa 3. Please try again or contact customer support for assistance." Ugh!!!!

They just told me to wait until the next update. But, it was already working until I needed the replacement. 😪

Hi Hralthyretireme,

Thanks for this explanation. It worked for me also.
it is a heavy workaround though (need to have access to a recent enough android phone to be able to install the banking app). But so glad it works again...

This is still broken on my charge 6. To add to the mystery it was working, I then swapped watches with my wife (also a charge 6) as I preferred the black watch. After resetting the watches Google pay no longer connects on either watch. It makes me thing it's a permissions thing and somehow pay has identified watch A and now won't play nicely with watch B.

Google support next to useless trying to solve this, the ticket was raised 3 weeks ago and the last reply was over 7 days ago

Mine is still not working. I've given up.

Crazy that mine did work and just by resetting and swapping watches it no
longer does. Should be easy for Fitbit and Google to diagnose the problem
based on this

Same, I had to delete my old card for security, and now I cannot add any cards to the wallet on Fitbit charge 6. New security procedures on the bank side don t allow to add any card to more than one Google wallet trought it's bank app. It s not possible to add a card manually to the smartwatch.... I m looking for a new one...

Exactly the same problem here!

Plus having a new bankcard because the old one expired.

Can't  get it working on my replacement Sense 2.

Anyone has resolved this problem? Same problem for my Versa 3 from March!
Both Fitbit and my bank support didn't help me. Now it's like a Mi Band (the only advantage was NFC payment)!

We should write to the Google fit customer care. It s like a fraud. I Ve
bought it for the NFC payment!

I just wrote to Fitbit support and, after 4/5 months, they said it's nof Fitbit fault and passed all to Google Wallet support. Now Google Wallet support also says that it's not thei fault.
I contacted also my bank to open a ticket with them.

I agree.

Google Wallet - contacting bank to set it up on Charge 6 doesn't work. Even though both my bank (Barclays) and region (UK) are supported. I have the latest firmware and have cleared the cache etc multiple times.

I see that many, many others have had this issue since 2023. Considering the ability to use Google Wallet is a key selling point of the Charge 6, I'd say there's a pretty clear consumer rights issue here. We're being mis sold. The main reason I bought the Charge 6 was because of the Google Wallet feature.

I'm afraid if there isn't a fix very soon I'll be reporting Fitbit to our consumer rights organisations here in the UK.

Fitbit website forced me to choose a new username to post because of Google account and no longer Fitbit account.

I upgraded to a more current iPhone and Fitbit app did not transfer over smoothly with out some problems.  Apple iOS 18.1 forced me to redo the following above method again to restore my Fitbit with the same data.  I had to delete Fitbit from my current iPhone in the Fitbit app and remove also from iPhone settings Bluetooth, choose forget this device option. I login on the same modern android phone that I had from the above posts.  I login capital one banking app, login Google wallet  and without changing any options but accepting all defaults by each app. Then,  I went to Fitbit device and went to settings to look for restore to default/clear data to remove,  restore Fitbit to the first day it was opened out of the box.  I then log in Fitbit app on the android phone and use my same google account login from the same iPhone Fitbit app email login. I added my Fitbit and type the numbers that appear after Fitbit found screen.  A pop up appears after typing Fitbit number saying pair Fitbit and allow Bluetooth, I was not paying attention for a few seconds so had to press try again to see message. After pairing is done , I synced the Fitbit to make sure everything works. Then, I went to Fitbit wallet tile and enter my credit card info and it says contacting bank, banking app running in the background pops up with message saying google wallet asking for permission to add to Fitbit, message says agree or decline, I click yes and then Fitbit app says Authorization/permission received and continuing setting up Google wallet/Google pay. Fitbit says Google wallet is ready and I go to sync Fitbit and check my Fitbit on my wrist to confirm.  I type in my passcode to check if Google wallet shows up on the Fitbit and I am happy again.  I did not provide the exact wording from each message/notice or setting but most Fitbit users are already familiar with  Fitbit login, pairing and syncing and Fitbit/Google wallet.  I  hope everyone resolves their Fitbit digital payment problem.
