Find my phone feay

Why won’t the find my phone feature work when my Fitbit app isn’t open? It only works if the app is open? I don’t just leave my apps open constantly. Is there a setting that I need to change? I just got a new Versa 3 to replace my old one.

What type of phone do you have @SunsetRunner 

You are asking about the Fitbit app on the phone. 

It usually is because the operating system shuts the Fitbit off  when the phone goes to sleep. 

With android, if the app is in the front when the phone sleeps.. The app may still shut down.

Ok so I should not have my phone screen go dark after 5 minutes?
What about it I push button on side to not have screen in is that the same? Iphone11

I don't know anything about the iPhone. Could not even turn it on. 

I know that if the Fitbit app is open in the foreground, on some android phones. When the screen goes dark, the app stops. The answer is to move the Fitbit app to the background. 

World wide Apple really only has a small percentage of therefore I normally assume a user has an android device unless they say otherwise.
