Ok, I have tried everything, short of totally "burning down the house" -- doing a factory reset with the Ionic, deleting it from my Fitbit account, uninstalling every instance of the Fitbit software, and then hoping that it might magically make the Weather app work if I start everything from scratch. I have tried everything short of that, and it simply, utterly will not work when I try to input a city name, and it will not work with my phone's current location. My Weather app is as dead as a piece of software can be dead.
So, does anyone have it working properly? I would like to know if it actually works halfway well, before I destroy everything else that I've got working. And could you also describe how it works? I have the following questions:
How and when does it sync? I presume it syncs with your phone, and presumably via Bluetooth. Is that correct, or might it only sync with whatever Wi-Fi connection you used to set the Ionic up with, to begin with? And if it does sync via Bluetooth on your phone, how often does it sync? Is the frequency something you can set?
Mainly, I'm wondering if you can pop into the Weather app, and halfway reliably see what the local temperature is outdoors. If it only syncs once per hour or less frequent, then I'm not so sure it would be worth the effort.
And so on. Thanks in advance for letting me know how it works, because I really dread going through the factory reset routine, because I went through a nightmare to get my Ionic set up to begin with. I really don't want to go through that, if it's not likely to work, or if the app is actually quite lame, and not worth the effort to begin with.
Thanks again!

Weather has not worked for me in 3 days. I have an Android and the fitbit app has location services enabled. I cannot search for a city. Synching does nothing for the weather app. Quite annoying since I wold like to e able to use that app rather than rely on my phone all the time.
I have cycled the watch and that has not worked. The only other thing I can do is clear the cache for the app.
Edit: I cleared the app cache and data. After logging in, I was asked to grant permission to Location Services (I believe this was what it was called). Location was already enabled. It appears that if you performed an update on your app, this additional permission may not have presented itself. Weather is now working for me.

I'm using a windows phone, the 950. I also went into the apps under settings and cleared the data. I went back into the fitbit app and it asked for permission to use location. I said yes and opened the weather app on my Ionic and the phone app. The current location showed up right away and I also added my home location and that worked right away.
I just hope it keeps working.

So far so good. But after a day the weather info is not syncing again.
Now I have the right Location and everything and the weather app tells me to sync with the Fitbit app.
But when I sync the weather app doesn't Show anything but "sync with the Fitbit app"

I went into the weather app via my phone/fitbit and added my location yesterday. It worked...yesterday. Today the weather app is not working again. I will uninstall and reinstall the Ionic this evening to see if this provides a longer term solution. Thanks for sharing what worked for you.

I'm having the same experience. App worked yesterday after I manually entered my location in the weather app settings. Now today it isn't working again. I am going to uninstall the Ionic and do the set up / reinstall it tonight to see if this will work. Good luck to us both!

Thanks @SunsetRunner for sharing your ordeal (and I'm sorry it was such) to get the weather app working on your Android. I've merged two threads together and am very glad to hear you were able to find a solution.
Thanks to @dscsayers post, @MikeB1289 post, and @SunsetRunner post with tips to uninstall and reinstall the app and update the location permissions which seemed to be the trick here.
Also thanks @wmchapman for your post and Wi-Fi tips, it's a good place to start with this issue.

Mine is also not syncing the weather even though everything else seems to be syncing properly. I just bought this last Friday and am probably going to return it to the store tomorrow. I'm really disappointed because the size of the watch is great and it's a lot more comfortable than I expected since I have really small wrists and most of the smart watches/fitness watches are so massive, but I feel like this is really lacking many of the features of both smart watches and fitness trackers that I'd like to have.

The weather app is the one thing that's been working solidly for me from day one, last sync is always less then one hour.

My weather app hasn't synced since 4 Oct. Strava neither.

3. Go to the app section and go to weather and then settings, now here is the key, type in your location but before you do make sure the "watch" is opened into the weather app. as well. Now type in your location and it should woek
Many, many thanks - it was this last point that worked for me as I didn't realise that both apps needed to be open at the same time, on the phone and on the watch
I have a 950XL and the Weather app never worked and the list of locations was always blank

My weather app was working great using current location until I decided to add my hometown to the list and then my weather app stopped working after that. Note this all happened around the same time as the last update (version 2.42). I believe I may have found the solution once and for all. I removed my hometown first and only had 'current location' left in the list. In the FitBit app > Account, I did Set Up a Device and at the bottom of the screen was MobileTrack and I set it up. Now my weather app is working again!! Now let's see if once I go out of my hometown it still works.

That didn't work. And, no offense, but it makes no sense. Mobiltrak is just using your phone as a fitbit. I guess Fitbit is going to actually have to put some effort into fixing a bug for once.

I discovered that I have to remain logged in at all times to keep all the apps on the Ionic working properly. I have had no problems now that I stay logged in.

I've noticed my weather updates fine when I'm not on a WIFI network. This seems like a bug to me. I shouldn't have to be connected to a cell tower to get updates.

Mine doesn't update at all ever. Unless I do things like uninstall and reinstall the fitbit app or remove the Ionic from my account and add it again. Then it updates for a few hours and stops. Most of the fixes people have announced have been more magical thinking than anything else. Notice we're not seeing any helpful participation from Fitbit staff on the thread discussing the bug in the weather app?
