How to get the Weather app to sync?

Ok, I have tried everything, short of totally "burning down the house" -- doing a factory reset with the Ionic, deleting it from my Fitbit account, uninstalling every instance of the Fitbit software, and then hoping that it might magically make the Weather app work if I start everything from scratch.  I have tried everything short of that, and it simply, utterly will not work when I try to input a city name, and it will not work with my phone's current location.  My Weather app is as dead as a piece of software can be dead.

So, does anyone have it working properly?  I would like to know if it actually works halfway well, before I destroy everything else that I've got working.  And could you also describe how it works?  I have the following questions:

How and when does it sync?  I presume it syncs with your phone, and presumably via Bluetooth.  Is that correct, or might it only sync with whatever Wi-Fi connection you used to set the Ionic up with, to begin with?  And if it does sync via Bluetooth on your phone, how often does it sync?  Is the frequency something you can set?

Mainly, I'm wondering if you can pop into the Weather app, and halfway reliably see what the local temperature is outdoors.  If it only syncs once per hour or less frequent, then I'm not so sure it would be worth the effort.

And so on.  Thanks in advance for letting me know how it works, because I really dread going through the factory reset routine, because I went through a nightmare to get my Ionic set up to begin with.  I really don't want to go through that, if it's not likely to work, or if the app is actually quite lame, and not worth the effort to begin with.

Thanks again!

To clarify the suggestion to "close the app," for me, this has fixed the weather app sync problem if I close the Fitbit app on my phone, and restarted the phone app. I have to log back into the Fitbit app with my user name and password on the phone. Then the weather app syncs. What is deceptive is that everything else syncs before I restart the FitBit app on my phone-- I can do a sync with the Ionic that syncs all my activity data, just not the weather app. There are clearly some bugs here that Fitbit needs to fix. It would be helpful to know if anyone from FitBit is monitoring this discussion and whether Fitbit is doing anything fix it.

I've been working with Fitbit support, masochist that I am. After insisting I do the same troubleshooting tests multiple times and accusing me multiple times of running a beta version of the app, I believe the problem may actually be fixed.

There's a new version of the app in the Play store this morning. It must be really new, because my phone usually notifies me of available updates, and I had to go looking for it. After upgrading, I was able to add a city to the weather app and see weather updates on my Ionic.

The real test will be in a few hours when I go home for lunch. If it updates my location on the watch, I'm going to call it fixed. If it does not, it's just a temporary fix caused by the upgrade, just like uninstalling and reinstalling will temporarily fix the problem, too.

Weather app does not update cure location. I’ve tried everything as posted. Even now as i make may way across states the app doesn’t pair with my phone which does show the current ciry.  Even powered down the Fitbit and reinstalled the Fitbit app on my iPhone. At this point it looks like a software problem.

I had the same problem, and fixed it by opening the Fitbit app on the phone, clicking on My Apps, scroll down to "Weather", then clicked on the 'settings' gear icon for Weather.  I found the only thing listed under "List of cities"was "Current Location", but my Ionic was displaying the town I manually entered yesterday.  So I think there was a disconnect between "Current Location"and "Town X".  Once I typed in the town I want (in the Weather app settings), the Ionic picked up the weather information instantly and is displaying it.

Right, i did the same. If I travel I just load the city. Would be nice if the current location feature worked.

Thanks,

It kept telling me to sync but that didn’t work. Removed city and then added it back. Eureka! It worked after syncing.

I tried this on my Samsung Galaxy 4 and the app still will not accept my location city or zip after I press enter.  I was hoping that this would work as it is about the only thing left that I haven't tried.  Does anyone else have a Galaxy 4 and has been able to get the weather app to work?

Weather simply does not work on the ionic. Period.

Very dissapointed in the software and support of this company.

Too many resets etc.

One thing I have discovered is that bizarrely the Weather app won’t let me add my current location as a city. I can add other locations, and get the weather for them, but if I try to add the city I’m actually in, it won’t accept it. However, Current Location happily gives me the weather for where I am so not too much of an issue when I’m home.

I’ll have to try and add my home city when I next go away and then see what happens on my return.

I did the same. Uninstalled Fitbit app on my phone and reinstalled, signed in, weather app open on ionic, added city, and synced. TaDa!

Mine was working fine until the most recent update. Anybody else having this issue? HALP!

I've found that, if you have problems with the weather app syncing, it helps to open the app on the watch, then sync with the app open on the watch. You don't need to do this all the time, but you might have to do it periodically.

Tried that. It won’t let me add a city either now. Literally worked fine until I did the update 2 nights ago 😕

Make sure that all your apps on your phone are updated and current.  Sometimes other nonrelated apps will affect the weather app and prevent it from functioning correctly.

Yeah, if you can't add a city, that's a bug. Which means you have to wait for fitbit to fix it. I've had them actually try to trick me into updating the app to a version with the bug fix by suggesting that I uninstall and reinstall when they knew there was a new app release - all so they didn't have to admit they had a bug.

You could try clearing the app cache or uninstalling/ reinstalling.
