How to get the Weather app to sync?

Ok, I have tried everything, short of totally "burning down the house" -- doing a factory reset with the Ionic, deleting it from my Fitbit account, uninstalling every instance of the Fitbit software, and then hoping that it might magically make the Weather app work if I start everything from scratch.  I have tried everything short of that, and it simply, utterly will not work when I try to input a city name, and it will not work with my phone's current location.  My Weather app is as dead as a piece of software can be dead.

So, does anyone have it working properly?  I would like to know if it actually works halfway well, before I destroy everything else that I've got working.  And could you also describe how it works?  I have the following questions:

How and when does it sync?  I presume it syncs with your phone, and presumably via Bluetooth.  Is that correct, or might it only sync with whatever Wi-Fi connection you used to set the Ionic up with, to begin with?  And if it does sync via Bluetooth on your phone, how often does it sync?  Is the frequency something you can set?

Mainly, I'm wondering if you can pop into the Weather app, and halfway reliably see what the local temperature is outdoors.  If it only syncs once per hour or less frequent, then I'm not so sure it would be worth the effort.

And so on.  Thanks in advance for letting me know how it works, because I really dread going through the factory reset routine, because I went through a nightmare to get my Ionic set up to begin with.  I really don't want to go through that, if it's not likely to work, or if the app is actually quite lame, and not worth the effort to begin with.

Thanks again!

I just received the new FitBit sense and no matter which clock face I use the temperature is wrong. I did try to change the units in the settings. It did not fix the weather information. It still registers as Celsius instead of Fahrenheit. Please someone help me fix this. It is so irritating. I live in the Northeast, where the weather can be a daily issue. I prefer to know the correct temperature before I go outside.

Thank You,

Hey man, totally get your frustration - I to have had major issues with this pathetic yet useful app, and I've also found some unusual fixes.

1st quirk:

I've noticed that if I have my local area as a location of interest ie 'Parakahi, Whangarei, New Zealand' along with having 'my location' as another selection the app has a complete meltdown and will not display ANY weather information at all.

So to get around this I have selected 'Whangarei' as one location and 'Current location' as another "List of cities" - so when I'm at home the weather still displays and when I'm away from home and out of town my local weather AND home town weather is still displayed.

2nd quirk:

I've recently returned from Brisbane back to Whangarei and noticed that if I created another location in the 'List of cities' such as York in the UK where I have family visiting, the new location (York) won't display no matter how many times I 'sync' the device etc, and the solution was to move the order within the 'list of cities' ie I moved York to the top - then synced the device and it showed all the cities within the Fitbit Sense.

Once the new location York showed up, I could then go back and move it to the bottom of the list and amazingly all the locations within the 'listed cities' actually showed.

Not sure if this helps - but there are certainly some major bugs within this app, to the point were I've even had Fitbit replace the Sense with a new one, only to find that the Weather app has a complete meltdown due to the bugs which Fitbit don't know how to fit and clearly can't be bothered about.

Only thing I've found that works is to sync the watch via the phone app. Trouble is all that gives you is a snapshot of the weather when you synced it. It does not update itself as the weather changes. Might as well just look at the weather on your phone weather app.

Thank you. I was able to resolve the issue myself.

Anita... does your weather update itself or just when you sync? If it is the former I would love to know what you did. Having said that, I just made some changes to the settings about 5 minutes ago, so not sure yet if I fixed the problem yet. I see your problem nay have been different, i.e. getting Centigrade when you wanted Fahrenheit.

I found another section in the app itself where the weather is controlled.
Once I was able to change it from C to F, the weather updated correctly.
The weather only updates when I since it with the app.

I hope this helps.

Did you all check your location permissions in your phone settings for the fitbit app? If it's already set to allow all the time try to change that to something else, then change it back. You may need to sync in between.

Mine was working a week ago and then suddenly it stopped. I also have restarted everything  on Fitbit and phone and have tried even forced stop on app on my phone. Still nothing. All permissions are on... even tried turning those on and off. Fitbit weather app STILL says NO LOCATION INFORMATION. Go to fitbit app to setup weather.  I'm so annoyed. And now that Pandora is not supported on it either... I might as well get a cheap step tracker! It's pretty much all it is now....
