How to get the Weather app to sync?

ANSWERED

Ok, I have tried everything, short of totally "burning down the house" -- doing a factory reset with the Ionic, deleting it from my Fitbit account, uninstalling every instance of the Fitbit software, and then hoping that it might magically make the Weather app work if I start everything from scratch.  I have tried everything short of that, and it simply, utterly will not work when I try to input a city name, and it will not work with my phone's current location.  My Weather app is as dead as a piece of software can be dead.

So, does anyone have it working properly?  I would like to know if it actually works halfway well, before I destroy everything else that I've got working.  And could you also describe how it works?  I have the following questions:

How and when does it sync?  I presume it syncs with your phone, and presumably via Bluetooth.  Is that correct, or might it only sync with whatever Wi-Fi connection you used to set the Ionic up with, to begin with?  And if it does sync via Bluetooth on your phone, how often does it sync?  Is the frequency something you can set?

Mainly, I'm wondering if you can pop into the Weather app, and halfway reliably see what the local temperature is outdoors.  If it only syncs once per hour or less frequent, then I'm not so sure it would be worth the effort.

And so on.  Thanks in advance for letting me know how it works, because I really dread going through the factory reset routine, because I went through a nightmare to get my Ionic set up to begin with.  I really don't want to go through that, if it's not likely to work, or if the app is actually quite lame, and not worth the effort to begin with.

Thanks again!

@Jon05son Welcome to the Fitbit forums! Thanks for taking the time to post on this thread. Thanks for your interest in having weather on your Versa.

Please follow these steps:

  1. Open the Fitbit app and tap or click the Account icon > your device image.
  2. Tap or click Apps.
  3. Tap or click the gear icon next to Weather. You may need to scroll down to find the app.
  4. By default, the Weather app shows your current location, which cannot be deleted. Add up to 2 additional locations you want to see in the Weather app.
  5. Sync your watch with the Fitbit app. It can take a few minutes to see the updated list of locations on your watch.

This should certainly help you out with this.

Hope this helps. Keep me posted! Smiley Happy

Hi @SantiR,

I'm also having trouble with the weather app since the latest Ionic update. I believe there is a bug in the app with the new FitBit OS version.

The weather app worked perfectly up until I installed the update last week. Since then, I have tried to "sync" the app and it does not work. My Ionic is obsiously sincying with no problems (in fact, it's always connected, I get lots of notifications).

I tried the steps you outlined - I added new locations, synced manually, even restarted the watch afterwards - the weather app still shows a message "AccuWeather: Sync the Fitbit mobile app to update".

Is there a way to uninstall the app and the install it again?

Thanks!

JR

I don’t use the Ionic weather app. Instead I installed a new clock face that shows current weather. And it’s accurate and syncs every 30 minutes.
It’s called pWeather. Search for it within the clock faces. Sometimes it will fail to sync but you’ll know when it occurs because it tells you on the clock face the time it last updated.
If you are interested in your health information simply tap the screen and it displays: miles, steps, calories, floors, and minutes active. It also shows current heart beat/resting heart beat.
As a bonus, it also shows Ionic battery level.

Thanks, Larry, I know there are other apps. I liked Fitbit’s weather app for its simplicity, AccuWeather is quite good IMO (for my city anyway). I would like for the weather app (or the Fitbit app) to be fixed.

On the Ionic, low battery level is always displayed (by the OS, on any watchface); also, battery percentage is in the Today app.

So, any way to reinstall the Weather app on the watch?

Thanks for getting back and trying the tips and recommendations shared in this thread @JR-Fire! If you're having trouble with AccuWeather App, see  How do I set up and troubleshoot apps on my Fitbit watch?

With third party apps, note that Fitbit doesn't own or maintain third party integrations. In this case is recommendable to contact the third party developer to see if the app is or isn't working as it should.

To contact the developer please open their app on the Fitbit App Gallery, scroll/swipe down and under "App Details" you will find the information.

Thanks for sharing another Weather app that has been nice to you @LarryiSmiley Very Happy

Welcome on board @Jon05son, I'm glad to have a new Versa member here! To see your options, open the Fitbit app and tap or click the Account icon > your device image > Clock Faces Pick a New Clock.

Note that to update the clock face on your watch, you cannot have more than 38 apps installed.

Give this a go and let us know the outcome!

I don’t have a Versa. I have an Ionic, so what I have to say is pertinent to it.
With the Ionic I had trouble with the weather app to sync, so I went another route: I changed the clock face to one that would display the current weather. I tried many different clockfaces but finally settled on pWeather. Changing clockfaces may not be possible with the Versa.
If I need the weather forecast I go to the weather app. The forecasted weather appears to be accurate. The current weather in the weather app agrees with the one displayed on the pWeather clockface. That’s all I can say!

Does the weather app only work when the fitbit is synced to a phone? I ask because I haven't been able to view weather since I first set mine up using my laptop. It keeps telling me to sync with a phone to see weather, which I don't have.

I don’t know the definitive answer. I’m technologically challenged.
I have an Iphone SE with me all the time, even when I’m walking close to home (I’m partially disabled and can’t run).
I know for sure that the weather clockface (pWeather) updates every 30 minutes. (Occasionally it fails, but you can tell if you look at the clockface. It will indicate when it last updated). When that happens I change the face to the Today screen and then a few minutes later I change it back. This forces it to update. The Fitbit weather app also shows the update.
I believe, but haven’t experimented with, that if you turn WiFi off it will revert to Cellular and update that way. The weather data might not be accurate because it’s receiving info from a cell tower that may be many miles away. You may have to tap on the Fitbit icon on your phone to force an update.

Hi guys! If you're still not able to use Weather on your watches, keep in mind the following:

  • In order for the Weather app to work, launch the Weather app on the Fitbit device, then choose the location in the Fitbit App Gallery > Weather
  • When you change location and the weather hasn’t updated in the new location, remind that you must sync your Fitbit device with your phone for this update to occur.
  • To use apps such as the Weather app, location services must be turned on for the Fitbit app. For instructions, see How do I allow the Fitbit app to use my phone's GPS?

As a friendly reminder, the Weather App is only available on the Fitbit app not on the Fitbit.com Dashboard.

If there are any questions present, let me know.

I deleted the app when I put it back on, it worked fine.

Which app did you delete? The Weather app cannot be deleted or reinstalled on the Ionic.
