Internet Permissions and Windows 10 Phone

ANSWERED

It seems with my limited experience with the Ionic, that apps in the app store that require the internet access permission don't work well, if at all.

I removed the internet permission from the weather app and it started working, but it also uses location data, but maybe it will stop again.

I've tried the Yelp app, the Fitbit News app and also the Flipboard app, all don't work 😞

I'm curious if its the internet permission that is getting blocked by the Windows 10 Phone OS???

Thank you.

Hey there @Ebojager, it's nice to see you around! Thanks for bringing this to my attention.

Many apps include options to adjust the notifications, allow certain permissions, and customize what it displays. Note that turning off any app permissions might cause the app to stop functioning.

To access these settings:

  1. With your watch nearby, on the Fitbit app dashboard, tap or click the Account icon > your device image.
  2. Tap Apps or Clock Faces.
  3. Find the app or clock face whose settings you want to change. You may have to scroll down to see some apps. Tap or click the gear icon.
  4. Tap or click Back when you are done making changes.

We haven't received any similar reports like yours between Windows 10 phones and the apps on the App Gallery. So, I was wondering what's the model of your phone? Have you checked if it's included in our list of supported devices

If you have trouble setting up an app, see How do I set up and troubleshoot apps on my Fitbit watch?

I'll be around, ping me out!

Its an Alcatel Idol 4s and has very good specs Snapdragon 820 4GB Ram 64GB storage, its on the newest Windows 10 Mobile version 1709. Im pretty  sure its how the Fitbit app and the apps in the store are allowing permissions to pass through to the Windows OS on the phone. Its probably just a small tweak to the app, so hopefully you they will update the Windows version soon, or maybe how the apps are installed to the Ionic itself. Ive don't the settings and for example with the Weather app, it only lasts for a day and then stops, I then have to go into the app again and toggle the permissions settings, then occasionally it will work. I know its going to work when I see the GPS/location symbol pop up on the phone as most of the time changing he settings and permissions doesn't trigger the location services, then the phone just says sync to the app. So something is goofy with the app, probably whats the issues with the other apps too.

Thanks for getting back @Ebojager! Note that the devices on this list have been confirmed as fully compatible with all features of Fitbit devices and the Fitbit app. While a phone or tablet may not be verified as fully compatible, the Fitbit app may still work with your device.

Please keep in mind that when a device is not supported we cannot guarantee its functionality with the Fitbit app. It might work at a certain time and then it can stop working out of nowhere after an update. This is because the app is not optimized to that device and any change could impact the performance.

However, as I've mentioned above, see How do I set up and troubleshoot apps on my Fitbit watch? or Why won't my Fitbit device sync?

Let me know if there's anything else I may assist you with.

Thank you, Ive heard and read that allot, since getting my Ionic and have tried all the troubleshooting steps. I think what would have made me feel better would have been something like this...

Though your device may not be supported at this time, are developers are constantly working toward adding new supported devices and bug fixing the app software and the Ionic software. A new update should be released soon, and hopefully will fix any issues you are currently receiving Cat Tongue

Even if it may not be true I'd rather hear that lol Smiley Happy

I have excepted that the device hardware is very nice but the software needs work. I will stop seeking official help for my issues until a new update comes out in hopes that I wont need to return it.
