Bought a new Fitbit can’t get the 1 year premium membership

This is my second Fitbit - trying to activate the 1 year premium trial it comes with but no luck. Is there something in the small print that says you can’t have the free membership when you buy a new Fitbit?

I bought the Inspire 2 after my Versa 2 broke, thinking I would try a smaller size tracker. it was a good price (£59.99) and this included a years free premium. 

 

However, the biggest disappointment was the fact that Premium was not available if you had had a free trial in the past. I don't think this was made clear in the advertising, either on Amazon or on the Fitbit site. When I called the live chat - a couple of times, neither assistant informed me of this, but advised me to email Fitbit. I eventually called Fitbit, who told me that because I had had a free trial in the past I wasn't eligible for it again.

 

Found a good deal for the Versa 2 in Boots so am going back to that one.
