Download heartrate data

Hello!

I do apologize if this has been answered - it seems like an obvious question, but I don't see a forum topic exactly on this.

I notice on my mobile that I can look over my day's (and previous, etc.) heartrate data.

This data was one of the reasons for getting a Fitbit.

How can I download that data with my heartrate over the day?  Not just resting heartrate per day, but the actual day's data.

Thank you!

Still it's very difficult to understand why Fitbit is not willing to do this job.

They do not have a choice. I think they are staying quiet until it becomes a big issue (beyind people like us poking them for an answer) as it's quite a large undertaking to expose all this data on-demand to users.

Going through the Features Request there is not much activity and this one about exporting the data has only 1349 ticks.. Based on that, even though it says it's under consideration... don't hold your breath.

When I download data for a day there are about 25,000 HR points averaging 17/minute and peaking at 24/minute where there is activity.  What would we do with all of that if we had days of it..?

It would be positive if Fitbit allowed us to have a subset of data because I notice if we use the GPS and export a TCX file of that activity there is embedded HR data. At what level I'm not sure..

For instance when I do a Workout or analyse my sleep I create a custom record and all of the data is there.. A downside is, it averages your calories over the elapsed time, with the leveling of active minutes..

I still don't think the issue is being understood by everyone on this. Due to GDPR rules, as I understand them, FitBit have no choice but to comply. It's not a, 'we'll get around to it maybe', scenario. The question is whether they get it sorted before they get a hefty fine.

In this statement from Fitbit which was activated on May 24 you find that you have access to your data, they state the tools are available. How you do it is up to us, and as posted earlier I'm sure there won't be a massive establishment of easy access,  unless Fitbit see it as a positive to help their user Community get a benefit and the end result to market their products.

I'm not going to digest the full statement but from my reading Accessibility has been handled..

In the statement, that we had to accept to continue using their service, they declare that we are provided with tools to access “much” of our data. However the fact is that they don't allow access to raw heart rate data. I think the only solution is to change device/service.

The tools are there... A tool can be defined as a third party provider like I use to get my HR daily data and the RHR data from @iccir919.

But in these instances we have to communicate and I appreciate the effort put in for the RHR. Unless I have done something wrong at my end  it doesn't allow us to go back to the start of the Charge HR.. My RHR starts in July 2015, maybe that's when it was available on our Dashboards.

Yes, I have a heart issue to discuss with my doctor and to do print screens with the graph provided with the blue background is a complete noncense… the cost of ink is silly.

I am happy to simply do a print screen but can we get rid of the background colour and just have the graphic line

@Johnc123  What level of HR data do you require ?  From 3rd party help we can get the following from Fitbit with the RHR going back to initial release of their HR trackers if you maintained your current login

  • Daily RHR..?. Approx 2.5 years available currently
  • Daily 24 hr HR ?. A weeks data takes a few minutes and gives 167,000 HR points averaging 24 point/minute

Hi Neil, just want to say thanks very much for taking the lead on this, exactly what I need regarding an ongoing issue with my pulse, will be something to share with my doctor at next week's appointment. Frustrating that Fitbit hadn't resolved themselves but what can you do. Great work !

Cheers

I would like to be able to download my heartrate data.  That was one of the reasons I purchased the device and am frustrated that I can't get to the data.

@bcanode  You can download your RHR from this link provided by @iccir919 and your daily HR data from the US Squash League here  Both need you to login with your Fitbit login..

Sorry Colin,

I have accepted terms and conditions from Fitbit. They have my data. I have looked at the squash site... why would I grant access to my data to a third party with whom I have no relationship with and zero insight into their operations... and they owe me no guarantees about my personal data!

They want me to give them my Fitbit login?? Ever heard or screen scraping??

To be candid, this whole saga is absolute C#$%. Fitbit have the data, it is available, and it belongs to me and every other Fitbit "subscriber/owner".

What really is the business model? Take our data and sell it to medical companies / actuaries who then run algorithms over it looking for correlations... Facebook used their data to screen out certain profiled demographics.... who's to say you or I may never get access to health insurance based on data being provided by Fitbit to others..

Really, come on! I offered a sensible solution for the average users needs... If I were Fitbit and there was a demand for a service I would test out demand and offer a "pay for download" service for all users, or enable a "print friendly" version of the day by day charts.... 's truth

@Johnc123  I accept your comments because I'm a very retired Engineer and IT Specialist and I understand where you are coming from.. I purchase the original Premium in 2011 and started collecting that data with a commitment made that it would be improved.. I was suspicious when I noticed a statement , "we will double our contributions.... "... from 1% to 2%...in a report somewhere. and this statement in an Annual report.

"In 2016 and 2017, we derived less than 1% of our revenue from sales of our subscription-based premium services. However, in the future we expect to increase sales of subscriptions to these services. For example, in October 2017, we launched Fitbit Coach, our new premium guidance and coaching paid offering. If consumer reception is unfavorable or we are unable to successfully sell and market our premium services, we may be deprived of a potentially significant source of revenue in the future. In addition, sales of our premium services may lead to additional sales of our wearable devices and user engagement with our platform. As a result, our future growth and financial performance may depend, in part, on our ability to sell subscriptions to our premium services."

That's probably why it's been discontinued..  I was hoping they would have the HR data in that...If they couldn't add that HR data because it maybe the attitude of many Fitbitters.. They just need a wearable, and like gym memberships give it away... after a few months

But on the Fitbit side there are many age demographics and I'm 80 next year and  insurance doesn't worry me...

Today I went to a session, run by one of Australia's leading banks about online security and they obviously used their data to have the guests. They all looked to be very Senior seniors.  I was amazed, many do online banking from their PC's etc but only 3 of us use the App on the phone..

Another example is from ads on our TV you can get a simple access to your Credit Rating.. So the inquisitive in me gave it a go... All they wanted was your car drivers licence, your full name and birth date then address..  Immediate credit rating and a lovely chance to use the data....

After I got the credit rating they were then prompted me for loans etc, so another front door to opportunism......

Good on you Colin!

I am retired 62 ex operations for banks ( here and overseas) .... I guess I have seen every fraud /scam/ deceit under the sun over 43 years. Unfortunately many younger have never known a world without technology and consider it was always this way.

I use my PC for banking because I live in a DMZ and have firewalls and real time security.... but I remain very healthily sceptical about scammers.... I used my phone once overseas and I get scam calls frequently.. the number has also been onsold and linked to my "public" email address.... and my security knocks out 10+ phishing emails.... from which you should never "unsubscribe"...

My **ahem** on this is Fitbit know its an issue... they know they have to provide it, but it is going to cost them to have the servers running and storing data for all users, and provide encrypted download data... you will note that ther is "no one at home" on this community... only automated emails.

I suspect if younger Fitbit users knew the truth about how their data is potentially being used it may rock the boat. But I doubt they will get a "royal commission".

Not going to hold my breath, it will make my HR go up and possibly my health insurance premiums as well! LOL.

Stay well.

@Johnc123We have to spread the message...and I realize this is getting off the subject of availability of data....

In Australia there is a huge uproar because the Government are going to role out a central Medical Records data basose days..e.. All of the complaints are exactly what you posted earlier.... But surprise, surprise, some of our very large companies have always had access....

I show my age because my Engineering, Manufacturing Factory Management led me into computer in 1968 because we had Production Planning issues and stock control.. That led me into "taming the beast", and my final graduation was Computing.. One of Australia's largest  civil engineering companies poached me to manage their mainframe installation.. One day, in the early '80's we had difficulty controlling our email and the rudimentary online systems in those days. We had a "denial of service" attack and the authorities knew little about it in then... Wow, was there a huge learning curve for all involved... .

In the mid 80's the PC's.. We started with cpm86 machines because they were networked.. and didn't worry about viruses... But then IBM came to the party,,

Fortunately the University where I graduated had a very clever IT/electrical  engineer who had written his own virus detection system to protect the data the students were bringing into the campus. I started using that on our corporate machines, starting with 8" floppies...... Them were the days.. He sold out to what is now a very established company world wide..

In the my 30 years with the engineering company we did not have any virus intrusion..

Thanks for bringing back memories... It definitely helps the grey matter..
