Story about Flex 2 exploding on CNBC and causing 2nd degree burns.

Do you guys think there is any merit to the women's claim?  Flex 2 is the least powerful Fitbit of them all (all it does is flash different color lights for activity notification).  How could it actually explode and cause such severe burns on the lady's arm?  Any one in the community could explain a possibility?  My first thought is that this lady is crazy, but perhaps it's possible.

I could imagine a smart phone battery catching on fire, but a Flex 2 battery?  That's like imagining my old-school calculator exploding.  Thoughts?

Update to this story: We were greatly concerned by Ms. Mitchell’s report and took swift action to understand the situation. Based on our initial investigation, including testing of her device by a leading third-party failure analysis firm, we have concluded that Ms. Mitchell’s Fitbit Flex 2 did not malfunction. The testing shows that external forces caused the damage to the device.

Again, for @HLI and others who have expressed concern, we have not received any other complaints of this nature and we want to assure you, and all our customers, that you can continue to enjoy your Flex 2 and all Fitbit products with confidence.

According to news reports: Fitbit customer service offered her a replacement and that they are investigating matter.  Fitbit reiterates that people should continue to use their Flex 2.

She doesn't look to credible to me, but I do hope Fitbit comes up with a better response than that they're advertising.

I have a flex 2 also. And I am worried. Fitbit, please investigate and keep us updated. For the time being, should I stop wearing my flex 2?

@HLI We're not aware of any other complaints of this nature and see no reason for people to stop wearing their Flex 2.

Fitbit products are designed and produced in accordance with strict standards and undergo extensive internal and external testing to ensure the safety of our users. The health and safety of our customers is our top priority.

We have spoken with Ms. Mitchell and are actively investigating this issue.

@Gonfreaksss Flex 2 is the lightest weight tracker in our lineup, coming it at 0.83 ounces. A few electrical engineers are discussing its possible "thermal runway" over on Reddit. I'm not an expert in those matters, but will share more information from Fitbit and our investigation as it becomes available.

Charge 2 forum thread has tons and tons of people complaining about rashes/burns.

@Sarahsmart If you are experiencing any discomfort or have experienced a reaction, we recommend removing the tracker and consulting your dermatologist. We have co-developed a wear and care guide with a board of dermatologists to help wearers make the best of their time with their trackers. Conditions are different for everyone, and even with proper care some may experience a reaction due to other environmental or biological factors.

I do also want to clarify that Ms. Mitchell's claims refer to an explosion of the Flex 2 tracker. We are actively investigating this report, and will update the discussion with details as we receive them.

If you'd like to discuss any personal experience or either of these issues further, please let me know and I will connect you with someone informed on these topics.

My second one does get a little warm-hot at times, not sure if the $500.00 plus I paid for the Fit Bit and 2 Tori Burch bracelets to put it in was SO not with it!

The battery dies in 1 day. I am really disappointed int the Flex 2 (This is my 4th fit bit and 2nd Flex 2), as my first Flex 2 died in 1-2 months, which is what I think is happening now

@kristenp Sounds like a couple different issues going on here. I'll have someone on our technical support team follow up with you so that we can review battery and syncing performance for your device. We'd also like to understand more about the conditions under which the device feels "warm-hot," so we can help to determine if its operating temperatures read as normal. My goal to make sure you're happy with your Fitbit tracker and any accessories you've purchased, so please keep an eye on your inbox and we'll do our best to get you back on track.

This just happened to my friend in her sleep last night! And it's happened to other people in their sleep too, while it is monitoring how deep the person sleeps it explodes! People end up with 2nd and 3rd degree burns!
