2015 Goals with Fitbit?

Today is New Year's Eve and my mind is buzzing with ideas for the upcoming year! Smiley Very Happy

Having my lovely Fitbit on my side will certainly help me reach my goals for 2015. Some of them are weight and health related but a couple of them are to rest, make me step out of my comfort zone and try new things :smileywink:

So far I have:

  1. Reach 100 pounds lost (41 pounds so far!)
  2. Get 10,000 steps at least 3 times per week
  3. Complete the C25K
  4. Run a 5k for my birthday and a 10k by the end of the year
  5. Explore new places! Climb a volcano, run around a lake or a beach
  6. Walk with friends and family
  7. Sleep 8 hours a day
  8. Improve my eating habits

How are you going to use your Fitbit towards your 2015 goals?

Maybe I should clarify, as I didn't think my comment would be delved into so much.

From what you are talking about, muscle loss. I would have to be eating 800 calories for an extended period of time.

My 800 Calories a day, sometimes 1000, is happening ONLY for one month. Which I guess I should have clarified......

I have been doing this since the 12th of Janurary. I have only lost one pound and I have actually increased in sized with my arms with my Tricep and Bicep Muscles and Chest size, showing muscle mass being increased.

So far I am showin sucess, and DEFINITELY have not lost 4lbs per week, as I have only lost one overall in nearly two weeks now.

My plan is to after one month start eating around 1500 to 1900 calories per day.

As a formal wrestler, we had to loose weight on a whim if we were to make a match that we wanted. So one trick we would use in not loosing muscle mass whilst doing something such as this, is to eat foods high in protein ( including %100 whey protien shakes) and also increase our glucose intake, because when you eat lower calories, you don't have the amount of glucose your brain needs to function, so it take it from elsewhere, mainly the glucose derived from the breaking down of your muscles.

Another thing to consider when thinking about calories, is that I work a desk job, 9-5 sometimes 9-7 or 8. I don't really move all to much during the day, hence in the past couple years why I have gained this weight, while eating a healty 2,100 calories per day and I still packed on the weight.

I will keep you posted on the progress, as I am happy with where this is going.

Cheers!

I've always tried to lead an active lifestyle, but since I started my career in Nov '14 and settled into an office routine, it's been hard to stay active. I got a FitBit Charge for Christmas and now I'm easing myself back into being active. I've gained ten pounds from having to adjust to the new work environment, but now that I'm settled, it's time to get back to my pre-career weight (165). Once I'm there, I want to stay consistent and lose the last of my belly fat!

- Lose 10 lbs to get back to pre-career weight and then progressively more throughout the year.

- Stop snacking so much at work!

- Run three more obstacle races (Aroo! Aroo! Aroo!)

- Get in a run/play sports at least three times a week.

For me...

1. Lose 30lbs
2. Be consistent in tracking with my Fitbit throughout the entire year.
3. Drop caffeine.

Every year at work they have a 30 day wellness challenge, each participant needs to log 10,000 or more steps per day.  I have done this in the past, but it never seemed to help with dropping pounds.  On the 16th I bought Zips for both my husband and I.  My main goal is to be a healthier me.  I plan to lose 35 lbs to start, have 30-45 active minutes a day, and have more than 10,000.  I love that I can power walk on our treadmill and press the sync button on my tablet to track my progress.   I am down 3 lbs already.  I have drastically changed my eatings habits, thanks to other health reasons.  My doctor has already seen a slight change in my blood pressure for the better.  I am doing this for me and I am going to succeed with the help of this little Zip on my hip!

So, I thought I would update @Heybales with what you called my "experiment", that he'd given out before but with so many people "failing" the "experiment", he was excited to see what would happen as I quote him, "Especially with so little to lose. I look forward to the ending here.".

Well, I have been keeping up with my diet and @Heybales said that according to his "calculations", I was on track to loose, " I'm sure the diet should result in 4 lbs weekly fat loss thinking about likely TDEE, but really throw in some muscle mass and it should be more than that."

But in fact, I have actually lost only 1lb, which is way off from @Heybales "calculations" of "4lbs Weekly", as I have definitely not lost 12 lbs. Also my Body Fat % according to the Aria has decreased by over 2.5%.

So to me it looks like I am loosing weight, but gaining muscle mass according to my Body Fat % and BMI.

I am truely wondering @Heybales as to where your getting your calculations from because it has been three weeks now and you are off by 11lbs.......

As to your condescending comment about , "Since this experiment will likely be over quickly, it'll be interesting how well maintenance goes.", well it has been three weeks, still eating about 800 Calories a day and everything you stated in your "Experiment Predictions" is way off, which scares me to as what other type of advice you give to other people, because everything you "predicted" based off of your "calculations", was completely wrong for myself so far.....

Hello guys! This thread is getting a little off-topic. Could we please bring the discussion back to your 2015 goals?

Thanks and best of luck Cat Happy

Hi! Just bought my first fitness tracker! I tracked my Cardio (stairmaster) and Weight training the other day for the first time! So far, I really like my Fitbit.

My goals this year!

1. Lose 8% body fat (so far, I have dropped 2% body fat)

2. Run a half marathon without stopping

3. Log all my daily food and exercise into Fitbit and MFP

4. Gain a Spin class in my schedule (already certified, just subbing classes at the moment)

5. Earn my Kickboxing Cert.

6. Hike as many mountains as I can this spring/summer

Thats it! I am using the Fitbit more for weight loss and to help me keep track of what I am doing or not doing to ensure that the weight comes off.

I'm already addicted to it! I don't want to take it off, ever. haha 😉

One little side-step to thread topic, and that's it.

The 4 lbs weekly was based on the claim you were eating 2000 less than what you burned.

My comment was to show that wasn't the case, at least not for long.

Your body will adapt, and you no longer burn as much as you thought - precisely because you are eating too little.

You will still lose, true. Studies have shown max suppression of daily burn and metabolism to be about 20-25%. If you keep eating low enough, you will still lose weight. Just not as much as could have been lost with a reasonable deficit.

With a body very unhappy with what is being done to it.

And BF% scales are only accurate to at best 5-10%, so 2.5 is well within margin of error, so not really anything to base on.

You'll never gain more muscle mass than 1 lb every 2 weeks or so, and only if total noob at lifting. Month of that it won't be that fast. Muscles getting stronger and looking bigger is not adding mass either - 3 separate functions there.

You could likely be losing more than you are by actually eating more, because you have changed what your body is willing to burn daily now. Your Fitbit is no longer anywhere near a decent estimate of daily burn.

And my normal advice to people is to take a reasonable deficit for sustained fat loss and maximum ability to maintain it once goal is reached. And that allows to make their workouts the best they can be.

So if really only 1 lb lost in last 3 weeks, and if you believe it's fat, actually lets give another 1 lb for gaining some muscle that masked the weight loss.

2 lbs fat lost x 3500 / 21 days = 333 calories burnt more than you ate.

About 800 a day + 333 = 1133 daily maintenance for whatever the daily routine is.

Wow, that's scary low. Hope you don't get sick or injured and can't workout to that level, your 800 might just become your maintenance level in that case.

My goals:

1. Lose about 20-25 pounds [I have lost 35 pounds since August];

2. Get more toned and sculpted everwhere;

3. Start swimming again;

4. Run some sort of race, a 5K or 10K or whatever.

I am 6'3" and weigh 225 pounds. I look and feel a lot better than I did 35 pounds ago, but I can do better.

My own fitness/health goals for 2015:

- Gain muscle mass (I put my faith in "newbie gains"!)

- Lower body fat (as reported by Aria) to 15%

- Try not to exceed 100k weekly steps (*).

When I look at profile pics of male friends around me, I know why 100k weekly steps is the "sweet spot" Smiley LOL
