The end of summer or winter looms and there are only a few more weeks for a getaway or two before the seasons change. You still have to get your steps though, so make your plans with some travel in mind and post your monthly goals here.
How It Works
The primary purpose of these monthly challenges is to encourage you to set and hit your daily step goals for the month; though many of us track other things as well, like body weight exercises, sleep, trips to the gym, logging food, etc. This is not a competition to see who can do the most of whatever, instead it is a challenge to measure your consistency. So whether you do 1k, 5k, 10k or even 40k steps a day, this is measuring how many days out of the monthly total you can hit your goal.
Some might have a constant goal of 10k steps every single day and others might have a variable goal throughout the week, (and some might even plan days off!) for example.
Monday -> Friday = 10k steps a day
Sat & Sun = “6k steps a day,” or “not tracking”
Regardless of how you structure your daily goals, the only thing that matters for the monthly challenge is whether or not you reach what you set out to do.
Suggested Posting Format
1) Post either your constant or variable step goal.
2) Keep track of the # of daily goals achieved out of the monthly minimum and or monthly total
Picture Scavenger Hunt — 3 pictures
The theme this month is wanderlust ... the road, the trail, going somewhere, and what you see along the way. A few years ago we focused on bridges and overpasses. That would be good. So would anything from the Paris Olympics! Post your goals below and post your pics throughout the month.
Posting
Although you certainly don’t have to post daily, you’ll likely stay closer to what you set out to do by updating the thread several times/week
Injury Notice
If you injure yourself during the month and need to scale back due to the injury, then all you have to do is adjust your goal for that period. If you normally do 10k steps a day but pull a hamstring and decide to do minimal walking (2k steps a day), then all you have to do is change your goal.

Get referred to London hospital | 0/1 |
Tomorrow I'm very much hoping to get somewhere with my intended referral to that National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery in London. I've changed my doctor, who had actually got the referral process wrong (due to a silly National Health Service technicality) and wrote a letter to his replacement (my choice) to tell her what had been going on, and what I was hoping to do. That went by email to the surgery on Friday evening, and she's in tomorrow.
Given my maximum range from our house is about 175 metres first thing in the morning, unless I get transport, I said I'd have to be a bit creative about the Scavenger Hunt. So my first image is a very battered Ordnance Survey map of the area around where we live, which is part of Shropshire, in England. A few years ago, I started to keep a record of where I had walked from the house with Walter. He's walked off the map quite a bit to the north and to the west, but this gives a good idea of where he and I had gone. It's a bit crumpled now, so this map stays at home, and I've a better condition one for taking out in my map store.

I was at Artscape on Saturday, an annual Baltimore festival, when storms rolled in. So I waited it out at the train station. If you look to left of the man/woman statue, you can see lightning. The cars zipping along through the rain were my view from the train station garage.
GLightning!

Wanderlust August DAY 8
In bed by 11 every day | 8/31 |
5 flights of stairs each day | 8/31 |
3500 revs on the exercise pedaller daily | 8/31 |
3 Scavenger Hunt pictures | 2/3 |
Get referred to London hospital | 0/1 |
I'll start with the photo, and I did say I'd have to be inventive. I reckon Wanderlust can mean the desire to travel, which I've certainly got, but not the capability, so here's a picture of the turning point in my morning walk. The path continues to the other end of the wood.
I had a good talk with my (new) doctor this morning - about half an hour on the phone. It's been a good move to change docs. It's a bit more complex than I thought getting referred down to London, although that might come back on to the table. She listened carefully to what I told her, and had read my detailed letter carefully, and her plan is (1) to try one more medication to lessen the pain, and (2) to write to the Neurology department at the hospital in Stoke, which is just in the next county, to get some action there.
@jantonini , sorry you've not been well, but good that you are on the mend.
