Hi All. I certainly do feel more awesome than last time I wrote. Jazzed even!  In 3 months of sticking to my "program" like glue,I've lost 22 of my 30 lbs goal.  I can hardly believe all I've learned about portions and spreading out my eating to never be hungry and especially about the Many benefits of walking a lot.

I can "wog" (gentle low stepping walk-jogging) now too and it's never hurt my joints or anything but I have a soft low-grassy straitaway on our property for it. At 62 I've been Really careful with my body all this time;although I never slacked off, just went real slow and took a longggg time at first. I never thought I'd Want to move fast again and it's fun.

Besides my ellptical (also something I've taken real slow and easy)I'm looking to the future and just got a nice mat for starting some pilates. I've gained lots of stamina but read everywhere that those exercises are very good for seniors. I Never wanted to "exercise" and thought walking would be It at first but my attitude has really changed along with my body.

I now fit all my summer shorts I'd saved and it was a blast trying them all on. I've been wearing elastic waistband skirts for 3 summers. Ha. 3 of my 4 pairs of years old but good jeans fit now too. Had those all stashed for 5 years and even then they were Too tight.  So today I'm a real happy camper.

Looking forward to reading more stories here. Woman Very Happy

In November my BMI was the 'overweight' box right next to 'obese'. I printed a chart and have put a big X over One Box A Month ,5 months in a row now,as I've lost weight.  For April I'll be into that Last 'overweight' box to X off (since I already just bounced down that far..and I'm sure by next week I'll be settled into it). It's a silly satisfaction to cross off those boxes but it's one of a dozen little games I have going with myself for encouragement rewards. Woman Wink

I Just got my 500 mile badge from fitbit yesterday too! That was fun to see since I'd just started wondering when it would show up.

Well, I'm 15 weeks pregnant and the first trimester really sapped my energy, so my awesome accomplishment is getting to 10,000 steps at least 2 times a week. Going to aim for 10,000 3 times a week starting this week so going to get stepping 🙂

Welcome to the forums @LittleKT! it's great to see that you are staying active during this period of time, my sister did something similar when she was pregnant and she had great results, keeping a certain level of activity helped her to feel better physically and mentally. I hope to see you around in the Community more often. Smiley Happy

I hit an all time high record tonight: 30k steps. I think the most I've ever walked was 22k. The challenge this week definitely gave me that extra push to stay in 1st place. 🙂 Before I would had stopped at 17-18k because I was tired after working all day.

@punchxcore: according to your profile, this was on your third day with Fitbit:

This is a great achievement, way to go! I think it took me about two months before reaching 30k for the first time.

Well, to be fair.. I've been walking using a pedometer for almost a year (with the exception that I got extremely lazy over the winter). But the old school pedometers just don't cut it since I'm a numbers person. I love seeing the active minutes and calories burned progress bar, and also the exercise intensity. So that pushes me to work harder.

Yes, I definitely get that @punchxcore, it's great to be able to see all the progress we make throughout the day represented in the graphs. Another thing that motivates me is the new tile in the application for sedentary time, it does help me to see an overview of how active I've been during the day.

There are a couple of people where i work who go for a long 6-8km run during lunch and i am hoping to join them, so i began running the 3km home from work a few times a week and pushing as hard as i could, very motivating keeping stats with fit bit over the last month! Who knew your body could start adapting to new activities so quickly! It is still a struggle to run hard but i really want to get under a 1km/5min time average and begin to increase the distance from there until i can join my coworkers for some more excersise without being left in the dust! Even managed to start going down in weight again this month!

Also gave rock climbing a try but have no where near the grip or arm strength for it yet but it would be fun to try again.

I coach a lot of beginning runners both at work and in a local community running club.  My advice to you would be to stop running so hard on your three kilometer runs, slow it down and start aiming for longer distances.  The thing is, pushing as hard as you can will, far more often than not, just get you hurt.  The flip side for beginners is what is commonly referred to as the LSD (Long Slow Distance) methodology of training; LSD training will almost always get you up to speed for shorter distances quicker.  Said another way, you don't have to run fast to be fast.

To be a little more specific, I would coach you to slow your pace down to say, six and a half to seven minutes per kilometer, and then run longer distances starting with five kilometers and working up to ten kilometers at that same pace.  Once you can run ten at the six and a half minute pace, then start speeding things up.

I just had my annual phyiscal.   Since April 2015, the following has happened.

  • Dropped 72 lbs.   332 to 260
  • without the use of medication,  Blood Pressure dropped from 140/95 to 117/75
  • No major gout attacks
  • BMI has dropped from moribly obese to overweight.

I couldnt be more happier.   By next phyical, I plan to be at goal.

The gout attacks is interesting; I know or have known several folks with gout and none of them have ever reported their doctors linking their gout with excess weight.  Congratulations!
