Dancing December Step Challenge and Scavenger Hunt

Here we are — the last month of decade, holiday food everywhere you look, all sorts of social obligations so .... why not recommit to your minimum daily fitness/eating goals, just to make sure you don’t lose the baseline you’ll aim to beat next month when you plan out 2020?

General monthly instructions are below, including the monthly picture scavenger hunt.

How It Works

The primary purpose of these monthly challenges is to keep track of your daily step goals for the month; though many of us track other things as well, like body weight exercises, sleep, trips to the gym, logging food, etc. This is not a competition to see who can do the most of whatever, instead it is a challenge to measure your consistency. So whether you do 1k, 5k, 10k or even 40k steps a day, this is measuring how many days out of the monthly total you can hit your goal.

Some might have a constant goal of 10k steps every single day and others might have a variable goal throughout the week, (and some might even plan days off!) for example.
Monday -> Friday = 10k steps a day
Sat & Sun = “6k steps a day,” or “not tracking”

Regardless of how you structure your daily goals, the only thing that matters for the monthly challenge is whether or not you reach what you set out to do.

Suggested Posting Format
1) Post either your constant or variable step goal.
2) Keep track of the # of daily goals achieved out of the monthly minimum and or monthly total

Picture Scavenger Hunt

This month look for and post pictures at least 3 outdoor holiday displays or holiday costumes while out and about.

IMG_8173.jpegIMG_4266.jpegIMG_1447.jpeg

Posting

Although you certainly don’t have to post daily, you’ll likely stay closer to what you set out to do by updating the thread several times/week

Injury Notice
If you injure yourself during the month and need to scale back due to the injury, then all you have to do is adjust your goal for that period. If you normally do 10k steps a day but pull a hamstring and decide to do minimal walking (2k steps a day), then all you have to do is change your goal.

My goals willlargely remain the same except for the first 2 weeks where I'll be testing out my calorie restriction for the surgery. I have to be on a very low calorie diet (preferably meal replacement shakes but I can't quite bring myself to drink those!) for 10 days prior to surgery. I am testing myself with 14 days in December. That should make the 10 days in January a breeze no?! We'll see!

800 calorie meals - /14 days

Oh, I posted something similar on the manage weight forum, since I didn’t see this one here!

I’m glad to join in, but my goals only run until the Winter Solstice (22 December), because I know except maybe for steps, all my goals will fall to pieces after that 😟

At least 10k steps per day - 22 days

3 gym workouts per week - 6 workouts

No alcohol Monday - Friday - 15 alcohol free days

Lose 2 lbs (trend weight start weight 120.7 lbs)

And here’s my first scavenger pic!  It’s known locally as the “Christmas House” because it is the most decorated house in the town.  Every year they turn their mailbox into a charity donation box.  This year the charity is Diabetes UK.

I've been gone for a few months, but I'm back!  I think August was the last month I contributed anything to this group.  Since then, I've had my thyroid removed, started IV iron infusions, and B12 shots and hopefully on my way to some better health for a much better 2020.

I've been tracking my steps, but it's been a struggle to get even 5,000 steps a day in.  And we have our 2nd blizzard of the season already!  So my goals are not that high, but hopefully will increase in 2020!

10 Min Cardio 0/25

Lunges 0/15

@BMANintheUP , lovely Talia!

As for me, it looks like those two pounds are going to be hard to shed, because - leftovers!  I’m the only human leftover of a meal for 10.  I cannot tell a lie: it was pecan pie for lunch and TWO helpings of stuffing with gravy for dinner.

My mother used to call it “getting fat from shame” - as in, it would be a shame to waste all that cornbread (I’m thinking breakfast tomorrow...). But what will the scales say...

Not sure I should still have the 50 mile bike ride on the list in December (that's about a 4 hour time commitment for me).  Rain all day today, and it keeps getting colder, but I might find a good day for it, not today though!

We've got one house pretty well decorated in the neighborhood ...

@Julia_G -- Having your goals run until Winter Solstice seems like a very reasonable and mildly sober approach to the month.  Cheers!
