Dancing December Step Challenge and Scavenger Hunt

Here we are — the last month of decade, holiday food everywhere you look, all sorts of social obligations so .... why not recommit to your minimum daily fitness/eating goals, just to make sure you don’t lose the baseline you’ll aim to beat next month when you plan out 2020? 

 

General monthly instructions are below, including the monthly picture scavenger hunt.                       

How It Works

The primary purpose of these monthly challenges is to keep track of your daily step goals for the month; though many of us track other things as well, like body weight exercises, sleep, trips to the gym, logging food, etc. This is not a competition to see who can do the most of whatever, instead it is a challenge to measure your consistency. So whether you do 1k, 5k, 10k or even 40k steps a day, this is measuring how many days out of the monthly total you can hit your goal.

 

Some might have a constant goal of 10k steps every single day and others might have a variable goal throughout the week, (and some might even plan days off!) for example.
Monday -> Friday = 10k steps a day
Sat & Sun = “6k steps a day,” or “not tracking”

 

Regardless of how you structure your daily goals, the only thing that matters for the monthly challenge is whether or not you reach what you set out to do.

 

Suggested Posting Format    
1) Post either your constant or variable step goal.
2) Keep track of the # of daily goals achieved out of the monthly minimum and or monthly total

Picture Scavenger Hunt

This month look for and post pictures at least 3 outdoor holiday displays or holiday costumes while out and about.

Although you certainly don’t have to post daily, you’ll likely stay closer to what you set out to do by updating the thread several times/week

 

Injury Notice
If you injure yourself during the month and need to scale back due to the injury, then all you have to do is adjust your goal for that period. If you normally do 10k steps a day but pull a hamstring and decide to do minimal walking (2k steps a day), then all you have to do is change your goal.

planks daily-working towards 1 min

at least 20 min bike 2x a week

snow shoe 2x a week

Hi Stepping Books- what kind of an IF are you doing??? I am trying to do the 14 hour fast-been doing ok- but woke up extra hungry/nauseous this morning so only got in 13 hours- close so close lol

I met my steps goal yesterday by Christmas shopping.  That was fun!

Then I met my steps goal today by digging my car out of the snow.  That was not so fun!  But hey, I got some killer cardio out of it.

Talia had to try on her Christmas Scarf for a walk to the mailbox.  Not Christmas lights, but I sure think she looks pretty.  Several towns nearby are having tree lighting ceremonies and parades this weekend.  So I'll get some picts for the scavenger hunt then.

@Julia_G inspired me to add an alcohol-free days goal for the month.  I figure the 50 mile bike ride is unlikely as the weather gets colder and I limit myself to bike commuting, so added the new goal above.  

 

One more scavenger hunt pic.  This neighborhood is on 34th street most of the houses in the block participate in what they call Miracle on 34th Street.  It has been going on for at least the 30 years or so I've lived in Baltimore.  It is a little early in the season and more house often join in, but its already pretty good.

Hey everyone.  I've started my annual 12 Days of Fitness challenge over here.  I'll add a new exercise each day for 12 days.  Starts out pretty easy on day one, and get progressively more difficult as you get to day 12 (because each day you do the new exercise + all the days that came before).  See you there.

Sadly, my Fitbit battery decided to die midday yesterday without a heads up of a low battery. 😫  Thankfully, I had my Apple Watch on to at least keep tracking steps.  

 

@aprildh - I'm trying to do 16/8 split on days I do IF.  My issue isn't always hunger.  Yesterday was probably not the best day to do it because of how mentally draining my work day was, but the days I've done IF I find myself more lethargic than I normally am.  I don't know if it is because my sugar is getting too low, though my doc said my blood sugar are normal.  Along with every other blood work test she did recently.
