Dancing December Step Challenge and Scavenger Hunt

Here we are — the last month of decade, holiday food everywhere you look, all sorts of social obligations so .... why not recommit to your minimum daily fitness/eating goals, just to make sure you don’t lose the baseline you’ll aim to beat next month when you plan out 2020?

General monthly instructions are below, including the monthly picture scavenger hunt.

How It Works

The primary purpose of these monthly challenges is to keep track of your daily step goals for the month; though many of us track other things as well, like body weight exercises, sleep, trips to the gym, logging food, etc. This is not a competition to see who can do the most of whatever, instead it is a challenge to measure your consistency. So whether you do 1k, 5k, 10k or even 40k steps a day, this is measuring how many days out of the monthly total you can hit your goal.

Some might have a constant goal of 10k steps every single day and others might have a variable goal throughout the week, (and some might even plan days off!) for example.
Monday -> Friday = 10k steps a day
Sat & Sun = “6k steps a day,” or “not tracking”

Regardless of how you structure your daily goals, the only thing that matters for the monthly challenge is whether or not you reach what you set out to do.

Suggested Posting Format
1) Post either your constant or variable step goal.
2) Keep track of the # of daily goals achieved out of the monthly minimum and or monthly total

Picture Scavenger Hunt

This month look for and post pictures at least 3 outdoor holiday displays or holiday costumes while out and about.

Posting

Although you certainly don’t have to post daily, you’ll likely stay closer to what you set out to do by updating the thread several times/week

Injury Notice
If you injure yourself during the month and need to scale back due to the injury, then all you have to do is adjust your goal for that period. If you normally do 10k steps a day but pull a hamstring and decide to do minimal walking (2k steps a day), then all you have to do is change your goal.

Hi @KoozaMom2 - just sent you a friend request. I appreciate having friends on fitbit, too, who help keep  me motivated. I must say, though, that THIS GROUP has helped me the MOST!

Best Answer

I agree!  I have several friends in the FitBit App, some I know personally and others I don't.  But this group has helped me the most.  I think it has to do with the fact that everyone sets their own goals instead of trying to compete with others.  And this is one of the most supportive groups I've found.

Trend weight was in the wrong direction (after all those leftovers), but hopefully I will get it right by the 22nd (just in time for it to go wrong again...)

@Jotex thanks for the pumpkin cheesecake recipe!  Tins of pumpkin are always hard t come by here (and pumpkins tricky too once Halloween is over).  Before Thanksgiving we went to 4 different grocery stores.  No luck at the first 3, and the 4th didn’t have pumpkin in tins, but it did have ral pumpkins.  So our pumpkin pie was made of the real thing, baked and scooped and pureed!  It was good, but a lot more bother...

@Julia_G - You’re very welcome.  I know how difficult it can be to get those cans of pumpkin. No local shops here in Switzerland have it (except perhaps in specialty shops in Berncity); so I have found some websites that sell it, or bring it back from the States.

We usually have a pub quiz on Tuesdays which means I get a 2 hour walk in the evenings. I walk to the venue. It's about 12km away so in addition to my 10k daily steps. All our team members dropped out today - first time in almost 2 years so I can't even walk off the blasted corn chips! Here's to tomorrow and a reset!

I am in awe that it is December already.  This whole "can't pull data" nonsense is driving me mad since I have to manually track things on a daily basis instead of pulling data.  Mother Nature presented us with a "Happy December" present with a drop of snow on us.  I know we got about 10" (or more, I haven't seen the latest total).  I hope to finish this month strong!

Dancing December 1-2:

15.5k Steps/Day:  00/31

600 Caloric Deficiency: 00/31

10 Squats/Day: 02/31

IF 3 Days/Week: --/31

Yoga: --/4

Weights: --/8
