Dancing December Step Challenge and Scavenger Hunt

Here we are — the last month of decade, holiday food everywhere you look, all sorts of social obligations so .... why not recommit to your minimum daily fitness/eating goals, just to make sure you don’t lose the baseline you’ll aim to beat next month when you plan out 2020?

General monthly instructions are below, including the monthly picture scavenger hunt.

How It Works

The primary purpose of these monthly challenges is to keep track of your daily step goals for the month; though many of us track other things as well, like body weight exercises, sleep, trips to the gym, logging food, etc. This is not a competition to see who can do the most of whatever, instead it is a challenge to measure your consistency. So whether you do 1k, 5k, 10k or even 40k steps a day, this is measuring how many days out of the monthly total you can hit your goal.

Some might have a constant goal of 10k steps every single day and others might have a variable goal throughout the week, (and some might even plan days off!) for example.
Monday -> Friday = 10k steps a day
Sat & Sun = “6k steps a day,” or “not tracking”

Regardless of how you structure your daily goals, the only thing that matters for the monthly challenge is whether or not you reach what you set out to do.

Suggested Posting Format
1) Post either your constant or variable step goal.
2) Keep track of the # of daily goals achieved out of the monthly minimum and or monthly total

Picture Scavenger Hunt

This month look for and post pictures at least 3 outdoor holiday displays or holiday costumes while out and about.

IMG_8173.jpegIMG_4266.jpegIMG_1447.jpeg

Posting

Although you certainly don’t have to post daily, you’ll likely stay closer to what you set out to do by updating the thread several times/week

Injury Notice
If you injure yourself during the month and need to scale back due to the injury, then all you have to do is adjust your goal for that period. If you normally do 10k steps a day but pull a hamstring and decide to do minimal walking (2k steps a day), then all you have to do is change your goal.

Hey SteppingBooks  🙂 just a thought- double check your water intake as well as salt- especially if you are following a low carb plan/fresh eating plan where you wont be getting much salt from anywhere ...but if I am feeling a lil low on energy my first thought is drink some water and my next is give me a bit of sea salt lol usually helps.....also my brain always seems to work better if I am stretching throughout the day-sitting/standing all day pools the blood so not much movement to the brain-also helps muscles get that oxygen that they need as well 🙂 sorry to hear about your fitbit- mine catches me unawares sometimes too lol

@aprildh I usually drink anywhere from 60-110 ounces of water a day, pending how much coffee I drink.  My carb macro is usually around 40%.  I seem to always get into something or another that is carb loaded.  It's only been this week that I haven't been able to get away from my desk (courtesy of the influx of traffic about registration).

I was disappointed to find skimpy holiday decorations in Bern today. But perhaps I missed some because one of my eyes kept burning and tearing up. The opthamologist gave me eye drops with antibiotics. Praying it works quickly — I have family and friends coming for Thanksgiving dinner tomorrow. Meanwhile here are my Christmas lights.

With all the Thanksgiving dinners and Christmas lunches, I have struggled to not gain. Fingers crossed we have a quiet spell in terms of big meals to make my weight loss goal by years’s end. Well, first, we have to eat some leftovers: turkey, cornbread dressing & gravy, green bean casserole, cheesy oven potatoes, and cranberry sauce...

Dancing December - Day 8

Daily Step Goal 5,000 6/25  But that will go up by 1 before the day is out!  I'm almost there for today!

Yoga Stretching Goal 1/25  Not doing so well here, but I'm putting together a new Christmas playlist that will help me get this in over the next few weeks.

10 Min Cardio 8/25

Lunges 7/15

Planks 6/15

15 Minutes Outside 8/15

Eat/Drink Fruit 8/25

I'm participating in an Ugly Sweater Challenge with a group of dog trainers that has me doing very fast paced tug games with my dogs.  This is a workout I'm not used too, but I come in from the play session after working 3 dogs thru it and I'm a pile of sweat so I know it's helping me reach my daily goals!

Day 3 Talia 1_Moment(7).jpgDay 3 Talia 1_Moment(12).jpgDay 3 Talia 1_Moment(15).jpg

And I'm getting lots of Doggy Christmas picts too!

Unfortunately a migraine kept me from going to the Christmas parade on Friday night.  But there is another one coming up on Monday night!

That looks alot like my neighborhood April!  I haven't been out hiking as much as I'd like to be. But I love hiking thru woods, near rivers, around some small lakes near us.  It's so pretty when pine trees are covered with snow.
