Does it irk you...

When you don't get your step count in?! I was at 8,000 at around 5 and planned on taking my son to the park to get my extra counts in, but I got home and life happened. Before I knew it 9 o'clock rolled around and it was bedtime. I would usually just go for a walk, but I do a lot during the week and my body needed the rest. It still irked me though.

My step goal (currently 13,500) is built around a typical work day, which includes a large amount of walking to and from the office.  If I take the shortest routes, that gives me around 10,000 steps.  Another 3,000 from walking around the office during the day gets me almost there.  It's easy to get a few more; by taking a longer route home, going out of the office to eat lunch in the sun somewhere etc.

 

So, Monday to Friday it's no great stretch to hit my goal.

 

Weekends are a different matter.  The pace of life at the weekend is very different and unless I make a concerted effort to go out for a long walk, I'm not going to get there.  And that's okay.  I'm comfortable with it, because I need to rest a little after the efforts of the weekdays.

 

However, I have changed my weekly goal to 100,000 steps, which is over 14,000 a day on average.  What this means is that I push myself a little further during the week in order to carry enough into the weekend to meet my weekly target as well.

 

Once Fitbit get around to allowing us to have different goals each day, I'll probably change the way I do it.

I was wondering how you jump so much thoroughout the day when I'm looking at you on our leaderboard here! I work as an admin and didn't realize how much I'm sitting during the day, even though I run around for people a lot. I get my steps in usually either in the early morning or after work. Yesterday I felt like doing neither. But I was just pleasantly surprised when I got on the scale just now - I don't know how accurate it is, but after 3 tries it still says 201! 2 - 0 - 1! That is sooo huge for me that I still can't believe it.

 

When I started marathon training last August, I was 221. I just knew I was going to lose that in no time, but after six months of training I was still 215. February 2015 at my marathon I was STILL around 210 and fluctuating (up not down). I started working out more consistently in March and got down to 208 but the fluctuations were still there. I now know that it was my food intake that was sabatoging all my efforts.

 

I'm suuuuper active on the weekends so we are actually the opposite. I started the day irked that I didn't get my steps in, but yesterday I was still 205 and today I'm 201 without doing any exercise. Maybe my body needed that rest! Yay us!

Hi Giftie, It doesn't irk me but I try to evaluate how I can try to do better the next day. There have been a few nights that I was off by 1500 steps and I would step in place before bed until I got them. I like that it keeps me accountable in my steps and makes more aware of my movement.

I've been known to have Zumba sessions at 11 pm. I'll do what it takes to get those steps Smiley LOL

I totally understand where you are coming from @Giftie It bothers me when I don't get my steps in, too. I've had a few days this past week where I was at work for about 15 hours - that really gets in the way of my stepping. I found myself stepping when I got home, even though I was exhausted. That's what I love about my fitbit. It really keeps me moving.

The same feeling here. Sometimes I wish the day had more hours to have enough time to cover everything. The good part is that tomorrow I might be able to recover part of what I couldn't do today. Robot LOL

If I fall short i get irked. I pace my living room or put on an Xbox game like Dance Central. I refuse to go to bed until I hit my daily goal of 20,000. Much harder on weekends though, I have to put in serious gym time or plan a half-day outing with my kids.

@Shortsbysummer I love your name. In time I'll tell more of my story and you'll understand why.

 

I LOVE that idea of putting on a game - I have both Wii just dance games and I actually love to dance! I love Zumba too and have some DVDs @HelenaFitbit so these are some great ideas!

 

After this weekend I am officially calling myself a fitbit addict! I literally ran (barefoot) out of the house at 5:51 and circled my apartment three times trying to get my steps in before this 6 o'clock challenge was complete! Smiley LOL Smiley LOL Smiley LOL

 

I already know I'm crazy, so you don't have to tell me.
