Hi all! I am starting this thread to help all the ladies from our old forum get started up again over here in the new place. Hope you all find this thread. Getting in shape after 60 has its own challenges especially when you have lost muscle, have slowed metabolism and hormone changes. How are you getting and staying fit? What s working for you?

Just received my Fitbit for Christmas. Although successful in the past, I have not been able to lose weight or motivate myself to be active consistently for several years now. Am counting on the Fitbit to help me focus on me for 2015. I have never weighed as much as I do now, nor been as out of shape! Ugh!

Hi Marfaanne, Glad your here. I have to say, for me and my heavy work schedule my exercise time is erratic, so my weight loss is slower. However the motivation from just wearing the Fitbbit One has provided me keeps me more active and always aware of what I am doing. It takes time to see results. lol and for me even longer. lol Enjoy you Fitbit

Hi Ladies, I am happy to say not only have I lost 10 pounds with the slow but steady excercise program, thank you to my Fit Bit 🙂 But. My husband is now wearing his very own fit bit and enjoying it. Since he had a pacemaker put in last February he quit smoking ( not a heavy smoker), quit drinking, and quit caffine. So he has gained 25 lbs. So we will be working in the same diet and exercise routine. I will be adding Yoga for over the 60 group here at my house next week but He refuses to wear yoga shorts lol ok I'll give him that one.

I am 57 and have started to eat organically and leave out sugar and processed foods. I walk daily and have hand weights at home that I lift for my arms and also do leg lifts. It is a process, but I feel so much better and don't have the swelling and my hunger has gone away. I drink my water and drink organic tea. I will drink a cup a coffee every so often. I eat three meals a day and snack on fruits and pop corn popped in organic coconut oil. I will have a piece of dark chocolate as a treat.

I retired in 2011, I thought I was at my heaviest weight. Oh no, add 25 more pounds to that a year later & I knew I had to do something. I joined Weight Watchers June 2012. After encouragement from another WW member, I started Jazzercise a month later. Originally I had planned on going three times a week. Although I can hardly beleive it myself, I go everyday. Who knew.

I am 60 and find it very difficult to stay on track. I welcome the encouragement and accountability this group could offer.

I know what you mean, GrammyMax. I did pretty well (for me) from about mid-August to mid-November. In early November (Oct. 29) I went on a Danube River Cruise and also to Prague, Czech Republic. I was gone for 2 weeks and went over 10,000 steps for the first time. I was around 10,000 steps several days and over 8,000 most other days. For me, that was very good. STILL, I could not keep up with lots of people my age. I nomally only went on one excursion a day instead of two. There were some less active people, but not many.
When I came home, I had to get busy doing things for a 25 person family Thanksgiving (out of town) of which I was in charge. After Thanksgiving, I had a whole slew of doctor/dental appointments. (They were all very happy with me, thank you very much. ) Then Christmas shopping, cooking, out-of-town again...and I have hand surgery in the morning--trigger finger on 2 fingers. And throw in there getting ready for income tax season...clients calling asking questions; ordering supplies, software, education, paying licenses and fees etc. (I still have much to do about getting ready for tax season!)
Bottom line...I have continued to wear my fitbit since being back from Eastern Europe, but hardly pay attention to steps. YOU HAVE to look at it to stay motivated. I plan to call the Y next week and join some sort of exercise class. I pretty much work 7 days a week during tax season, but if I put something on my calendar, I will do it and not schedule any work for a few hours. (I have regular pedicures and facials to get myself away from the taxes and relax.)
I am the treasurer for our homeowners' association. I have just prepared the bills for 2015 homeowner's dues. So I think I will go walk the neighborhood and deliver them. (It's 40 degrees about to rain!):womanwink:
