I live about four miles from my workplace and although I haven't yet walked all four miles to or from work, there are a few games I play during the week to increase my stepcount.
Some days I'll take the hillier, windier, unnecessarily long route to BART (San Francisco's heavy-rail rapid transit system). Almost always, I forgo the escalator for the stairs. Today, that act alone added 5 flights of stairs and over 250 steps to my morning journey.
My other favorite "cheat" is high stepping in place. Sure, I may look a little odd bouncing up and down while typing at my makeshift standing desk, but it feels good to keep the blood flowing and the legs moving!
What do you do to get your extra steps in?

When I go shopping at a superstore, I walk the entire outer perimeter of the store and then will go up and down all the aisles even if I am shopping for only one or two items, then I walk the entire out perimeter of the store again before going to the checkout line. When I go to a regular grocery store or a home improvement store, I will walk up and down every aisle in store before heading to the checkout line. My husband just LOVES shopping with me....NOT! LOL. I also walk on my lunch breaks at work, walk on commercials breaks while watching TV, and will do side-to-side stepping while watching a TV program. On my day off from working out, I still need to hit all of the my goals, so I will side-to-side step while watching TV and will walk circles around the inside of the house until I hit my goals. I admit it....I am truly addicted to my Bit!

I am getting my butt out of bed and using Wii Fit, I hope to start increasing my steps to 10,000 per day. As I am an executive Assistant, I sit and type alot, so I need to move more.
I was getting into couch potato mode, so I got the fitbit to motivate me to MOVE IT!!!

Hi disneybruin, Just looking over some of these notes. Every step counts. At the end of the day if I have not meet my steps I do some stepping in front of the TV. So keep on stepping with a smile and have a Happy day.

@kabooper - how do you like the Wii fit - my son said it's a lot of movement. How many steps can you get with that say in 45 minutes or so?

@Cybertekkno - Just wondering how many steps a day - I get my first 20,000 in the morning and the rest of the day are life steps (I have a desk job) and if I am not tired I finish off the night walking another 10,000 or so or sometimes do a Leslie Sansone tape.

I walk or run in place while I watch tv. I sit on an exercise ball and bounce while on the computer. I dance while cooking, cleaning and baking.

I've noticed when I walk in place, my fitbit doesn't seem to count my steps.
