@Jabrat That's true, it sounds incredible but a group of fresh people with open mind and great positive vibrations can motivate you a lot, it's like they're sharing their mood and enthusiasm but also giving you self-motivation to face challenges. Fitbit groups are absolutely a good option Smiley Happy

 

@_daniel_ Music is my personal motivation, but also I'd like to feel good with my body again so I think that's my other motivation, lose fear of the unknown in order to experience new things Smiley Happy What's is yours?

Hey there @Kisbell ! Welcome to the forums Cat Happy

 

Personally I think motivation needs to come from within, but you can certainly adapt your environment to step a bit further and eat a bit better every day. I'll give my examples:

  1. Pact App is an excellent motivator, which rewards you with money for every goal accomplished; but! If you don't reach it, you must pay for the broken goal. 
  2. Create your own method of goal setting, I have my own pounds-per-cash system, I put in $1 per pound lost and $2 every day I reach 10,000 steps. But I pay $10 for every pound gained and $20 for every day I don't reach 10,000 steps. This will help with being consistent and I can sum up quite a bit of cash by the end of the year Smiley Wink
  3. Go out with friends and family! Trade eating out at fast food chains for a fresh, home cooked picnic and a walk at a park. 
  4. I am also starting the training for EMT, which will be tough but very rewarding Smiley Happy
  5. Set a goal for a particular thing for the end of the year, a trip, a new wardrobe, a weekend out, anything! Visualize it and work for it.

Hey, Hey!! 

 

My motivation is the people that love me and want to see me healthy. While I'm running I like to see my phone and in the main screen I have a picture of the people that I love and that motivates me a lot. Also, I like to listen to electronic music or music that rises my mood. Smiley Happy

why not do something for charity like a run or cycle ride. i'm doing a cycle ride for macmillans  and as soon as you sign up raising money for them is my motivation as i lost both my mom and dad to cancer.

I think you need to figure out why YOU want to get healthy/fit. What is your inner drive, or thing that really makes you want to do it? It could be as simple as looking better, being healthy for family, being able to shop in non-plus size shops, etc. Then use outside tools to just help fuel that (ie: friends, reward programs, self-rewards, etc.).

 

I know that personally, I realised that my husband and I would like to start trying for a baby next year (after we find a house, or flat, to buy). I knew that I was far too heavy and out of shape to feel comfortable putting my body through that, and that I would have to lose weight to be healthier for the pregnancy and to be an active parent. I've also seen people close to me gain a lot of weight with having kids, and I have family with diabetes, all of which I want to try to avoid. For me, losing weight, getting active and healthy is driven by the thought of hopefully having a baby next year. I also rely on outside motivators, like even seeing the graph of my weight falling, or the excitment of dropping a size, as they help validate what I'm doing.

 

If you know deep down why you want to do something, and you stay focused on that, then any negative outside influences won't matter as much as well. It's not for anyone else, but you.

 

I know that you can do it, you just have to make that choice and go for it! You will be successful, and you will rock it. 🙂

Motivation?   For me the though that working out consistently now increases the chances that I'll be fit and active in my later years.  I think of each workout as a little deposit in an imaginary health bank.

I am agreeing with that. I have lost 20 lbs. since Jan. 30th of this year. I have 64 lbs. to go. I occasionally go up a few 10ths of a lb., but once I up the intensity of my workout, I get over the hump. What I am enjoying is the way people are complimenting just the little change (well, they are saying major change). My neighbor also complimented the energy I have whereas, before, when I had that extra 20 lbs., I was dragging every night. I am so much happier and laugh more. I am feeling good about myself. I have gone down 4 sizes in my waist. Instead of 18-20 or 1x/2x, I am wearing a 14-16 now. I went from 44" to 39" since Jan. 30th. It is definitely a lifestyle change.

Gotta rock it at 52. 53 next month...or was that 35?!!! Huh, darn dyslexia! LOLWoman Very Happy

When I started with my Fitbit One tracker, my goals, like everyone else here I am sure, were to lose weight and get fit. I weighed in at 224 pounds back then, and was 44 inches around the waist. I had an old pair of jeans I used to wear when I was 60 pounds lighter and waist 34 inches. I would slip them on in the morning,  and keep them on with the zipper open 6" wide of course, while brushing my teeth and shaving.

 

Fast forward 19 months, I am 50 pounds lighter and I can now fit in that old pair of jeans. But to keep my motivation up, I now wear the jeans I used to wear when I was 50 pounds heavier while brushing my teeth and shaving in the morning; with suspenders of course, as otherwise they would drop to the floor. While looking at the mirror, I extend the waist with my hands and realize just how much bigger I was back then. That little 'circus' sets me off on the right track for the balance of the day, with a smile!

As the above poster wrote finding a pair of jeans or pants that you can get into but they're tight. Try adding daily activity until they fit perfectly maybe with room to spare. Challenging yourself to a routine and noticing after a few weeks what left you breathless is getting easier. Works for me...motivation means different things to different people.

It's so hard for me to find the motivation to get up and be active for the day. what should i do?

Try to incorporate your exercise into your day. For example, my office of four women do 100 squats in the morning together to help one another, but you don't have to have everyone doing it. Trying to park out farther in the parking lot and walking into the stores longer. Find music you like and put your earphones and walk to the rhythm (e.g. dubstep, or whatever has a bumping beat). Basically do things you enjoy doing. Make it a part of your lifestyle. We get into those habits but find a way to do exercise that will not put you out too much. I work with resistance bands and videos (Shaun T). He does Hip Hop Abs and workouts, T-25, and Insanity workout, but start out with that. Zumba can get you in the spirit. It's fun.

Just try different things and don't make it work, make it fun!!!!

The best way in my humble opinion to get you get you going is to find something that you will enjoy doing. If exercise feels like punishment, then for sure you won't stick to it. You might get on with it for a few days or weeks, but it will eventually fall by the way side. You have to find something that you will be looking forward to, something that you will thoroughly enjoy. For example, schools often open their doors and gym courts for the community, where people form teams and play volleyball, badmington, basketball ... These are just examples, and they might not suitable to you; but you get the idea. If the activity is fun, you will want to do it.

 

After a few months of doing a fun activity, you will be inclined to incorporate other activities into your daily routine. But those will no longer feel like punishment, but as a means to improve your performance for the game you like.
