Muck-about March Madness — Step Challenge and Photo Scavenger Hunt

Is it really already the third month of 2021?!?

Vaccines are starting to ramp up, and COVID seems to be waning just a bit!  And while It is surely too early to relax social distancing, the close of winter in the Northern Hemisphere and the end of summer in the Southern Hemisphere means it's is the perfect time to get out of house and muck about.  So go outside and enjoy the weather!!

In the meantime, it is time to commit to another month of health goals.

How It Works

The primary purpose of these monthly challenges is to keep track of your daily step goals for the month; though many of us track other things as well, like body weight exercises, sleep, trips to the gym, logging food, etc. This is not a competition to see who can do the most of whatever, instead it is a challenge to measure your consistency. So whether you do 1k, 5k, 10k or even 40k steps a day, this is measuring how many days out of the monthly total you can hit your goal.

Some might have a constant goal of 10k steps every single day and others might have a variable goal throughout the week, (and some might even plan days off!) for example.
Monday -> Friday = 10k steps a day
Sat & Sun = “6k steps a day,” or “not tracking”

Regardless of how you structure your daily goals, the only thing that matters for the monthly challenge is whether or not you reach what you set out to do.

Suggested Posting Format
1) Post either your constant or variable step goal.
2) Keep track of the # of daily goals achieved out of the monthly minimum and or monthly total

Picture Scavenger Hunt — 3 pictures

March pictures should be a contrast from March 2020. Back then we were all starting to live, or at least read about, lockdowns, 6 foot spacing, and 20 second hand washing; and some of us were even starting to wear masks!!! Whoa!!! How have the people and public places in your area changed since March 2020? Look at your photos from then, and see if it is even possible to recreate the same picture at the same place now. I'm wondering if I will take my first train ride in over a year in March 2021.  Maybe.  What has your year been like?

Posting

Although you certainly don’t have to post daily, you’ll likely stay closer to what you set out to do by updating the thread several times/week

Injury Notice
If you injure yourself during the month and need to scale back due to the injury, then all you have to do is adjust your goal for that period. If you normally do 10k steps a day but pull a hamstring and decide to do minimal walking (2k steps a day), then all you have to do is change your goal.

This is something I never saw this time last year.  On Sunday I was unicycling through Johns Hopkins and was struck by the "Freshman Quad Annex" that as dropped down in the middle of the  campus.  It's got three huge HVAC units attached ... I don't know how fast the air is exchanged, but if some joker plugs up the return vents I bet the doors fly off the front in 15 minutes or less.

A bit behind for the month in terms of steps, but if I keep up almost 15k a day, I should be able to hit my step goal.  As it rains today.  Plus side is that will clear the park out from all those people.

Happy Wednesday!

I realized I missed counting two days of squats when I went back to my tracker chart lol Whoops.  I woke up early this morning to the house rattling from the thunderstorm.  It's definitely spring when the thunderstorms come back.  May not get too many steps today; wind gusts could sweep me away.

Whoa -- March is almost .... gone.

I was updating another thread yesterday and realized that my 10-year Fitbitversary happens on the same day of the year I got my first unicycle.

In the 10 years since March 28, 2011, I got ...

Steps | 80,996,913

Floors | 328,118

Distance | 41,651.42 mi

And, in the 1 year since March 28, 2020, I got three unicycles :-).  Here is the first one.
