OctoberFest 2023 Step Challenge and Scavenger Hunt

October

It is the first full month of fall, cooler weather around in the Baltimore area; I’m even wearing long pants some days! Holidays and parties are around the corner and I am trying to be mindful of all the goodies coming my way in the next few months. Moderation. Moderation. Moderation. But for NOW, lets just enjoy the weather and the changing seasons and get out an MOVE.

General monthly instructions are below, including the monthly picture scavenger hunt.
How It Works

The primary purpose of these monthly challenges is to keep track of your daily step goals for the month; though many of us track other things as well, like body weight exercises, sleep, trips to the gym, logging food, etc. This is not a competition to see who can do the most of whatever, instead it is a challenge to measure your consistency. So whether you do 1k, 5k, 10k or even 40k steps a day, this is measuring how many days out of the monthly total you can hit your goal.

Some might have a constant goal of 10k steps every single day and others might have a variable goal throughout the week, (and some might even plan days off!) for example.
Monday -> Friday = 10k steps a day
Sat & Sun = “6k steps a day,” or “not tracking”

Regardless of how you structure your daily goals, the only thing that matters for the monthly challenge is whether or not you reach what you set out to do.

Suggested Posting Format
1) Post either your constant or variable step goal.
2) Keep track of the # of daily goals achieved out of the monthly minimum and or monthly total

Picture Scavenger Hunt

The theme this month is … seasonal changes (a tree or flower or storefront at the beginning of the month, and again at the end); Halloween decorations/costumes, trick or treaters; German OctoberFEST related.

Posting

Although you certainly don’t have to post daily, you’ll likely stay closer to what you set out to do by updating the thread several times/week

Injury Notice
If you injure yourself during the month and need to scale back due to the injury, then all you have to do is adjust your goal for that period. If you normally do 10k steps a day but pull a hamstring and decide to do minimal walking (2k steps a day), then all you have to do is change your goal.

I have slacked off the last few months, due to various personal issues, but will be starting again today.  I have been maintaining the spread sheet I used previously, I just haven't been going online.

After breakfast, I will post my tracking today.

Thanks for still being here.

So - here goes.  The photo is of my favorite tree in the backyard.  It is past it's peak now, but the photo was taken last week.  The second photo is of my cat, who thought it was too cold to get up this morning, not to mention too early (6:45 am).

The parasols kept on growing, but on their 5th day the brightness was going, and on the 6th day, someone had harvested two of them.  I hope they made a good breakfast, but was sorry they'd chosen two from that special group of three.

Parasols seem now to have stopped growing, so they're possibly working their way up to rotting down.

Not much change in these three photos!

@Baltoscott Great to know you're in England!  I guess Shropshire might be a bit out of your way, but let me know if you're thinking of taking a look at our hills.

@Vidd - thanks for the offer. I wish I could have visited. I’m back in the US now (as of Thursday). I was mostly in London for about a week and a half with my wife, her brother and his wife, and meeting up for the first time with some other Fitbit CC members for a few days at a google event. Two longish trips out of the city. One real long day by train to Paris with lunch in the Eiffel Tower and a cruise on the Seine. 300 KPH on train is amaking! Another long day was a tour bus trip to Windsor Castle, Stonehenge, and Bath. The second trip turned into a real adventure when we missed the return trip from Bath on the tour bus. I heard the meetup time wrong, and no one else in my group was paying attention. That led to a rush to catch the train back to London that was meant to leave bath at around 6:15pm. We got our tickets just in time, but we extended our adventure by boarding the wrong train. We got it sorted - changed trains at Westbury - and got back to the hotel around 10:30pm.
