Readjust August — Step Challenge and Photo Scavenger Hunt

 

Late summer usually means some vacation for my family, and this year is no exception; except it is a bit. Not flying anywhere, but will be taking a road trip. Indoor eating at restaurants is off-limits at the moment, so we will be getting a lot of takeout and trying out the kitchen in the house we will rent.  Exercise won’t involve the gym, but there will be a lot of bike rides, unicycle practice and walking.  In sum, there will be lots of adjustments during Readjust August. :-). 

                                     

How It Works

The primary purpose of these monthly challenges is to encourage you to set and hit your daily step goals for the month; though many of us track other things as well, like body weight exercises, sleep, trips to the gym, logging food, etc. This is not a competition to see who can do the most of whatever, instead it is a challenge to measure your consistency. So whether you do 1k, 5k, 10k or even 40k steps a day, this is measuring how many days out of the monthly total you can hit your goal.

 

Some might have a constant goal of 10k steps every single day and others might have a variable goal throughout the week, (and some might even plan days off!) for example.
Monday -> Friday = 10k steps a day
Sat & Sun = “6k steps a day,” or “not tracking”

 

Regardless of how you structure your daily goals, the only thing that matters for the monthly challenge is whether or not you reach what you set out to do.

 

Suggested Posting Format    
1) Post either your constant or variable step goal.
2) Keep track of the # of daily goals achieved out of the monthly minimum and or monthly total

The theme this August is a nod to wanderlust and the road (some will note this is a repeat from August last year).  My friend @NellyG suggests bridges and overpasses along the way, and water when you get there … or was it the other way around?  Well, post your goals below and post your pics throughout the month.

Although you certainly don’t have to post daily, you’ll likely stay closer to what you set out to do by updating the thread several times/week

 

Injury Notice
If you injure yourself during the month and need to scale back due to the injury, then all you have to do is adjust your goal for that period. If you normally do 10k steps a day but pull a hamstring and decide to do minimal walking (2k steps a day), then all you have to do is change your goal.

10,000 the other 2 days a week 2/10

40 active minutes per day 5/31

biking 3 days a week 2/12

My goals for Readjust August. I'll be on vacation for about two weeks, so I'll adjust the steps and trips to the gym a bit from last month. For weight I will shoot to maintain.

 

-15K steps/day
-1 pushup/day (I always do more, but this goal gets me into position!)

-1 pull-up/day
-10 weight-lifting days

-post 3 scavenger hunt pictures

-Unicycle:15 min/day for 25 days.

-Sleep 6 hrs 10 min + 17 days or more during the month

-maintain weight

 

@HGeist1 -- keep that camera phone ready on your walks.  Never know what you'll find that might fit the bridge or water theme.  Of course, they go together quite often,  This one is not new, so it doesn't count ... my dog Jayhawk from 2013.

Thanks for the invite @Baltoscott. I’ll be back soon to post my goals for August. The knee pain is unfortunately still with me.  It’s weather related (very painful now and rain is on its way), so am convinced it’s arthritis. Will have to mull over what goals might help me relieve that.

I'd like to give this a go.  I need something to pull me out of my funk.  When my beloved 10 year old dog died on July 4th, my world stopped and I haven't kept up with my steps.  I'd like to try to get 500K steps for the month of August (approx 16K steps per day) to pull me out of my stepping-funk.  It'll be hard, because I have a lot of days where I just want to lay in bed.

 

We still have our 12 year old husky and he gets walks twice a day now to keep him from being depressed about losing his canine companion.  I don't pass many bridges or water ways on our walks, but I can certainly provide cute pictures of a fluffy, white old husky.  🙂

This is just what I need to get back into daily walking - August is about readjusting so I will start out with manageable goals:

5,000 steps Monday-Friday

7,500 steps Saturday-Sunday

3 times each week strength training 

increase my water intake & focus on healthy meals

@HGeist1 It's just a basic harness we've had for years.  I can't remember the name of it now.  He's a husky, 12 years old.  He's losing his hair in his old age, which is why his tail is so thin and he's got bald batches.  🙂

I have a Pomsky. I am looking for a harness that will turn him sideways if he pulls. Those darn bunnies are such a distraction when we walk. 😀
