Readjust August — Step Challenge and Photo Scavenger Hunt

 

Late summer usually means some vacation for my family, and this year is no exception; except it is a bit. Not flying anywhere, but will be taking a road trip. Indoor eating at restaurants is off-limits at the moment, so we will be getting a lot of takeout and trying out the kitchen in the house we will rent.  Exercise won’t involve the gym, but there will be a lot of bike rides, unicycle practice and walking.  In sum, there will be lots of adjustments during Readjust August. :-). 

                                     

How It Works

The primary purpose of these monthly challenges is to encourage you to set and hit your daily step goals for the month; though many of us track other things as well, like body weight exercises, sleep, trips to the gym, logging food, etc. This is not a competition to see who can do the most of whatever, instead it is a challenge to measure your consistency. So whether you do 1k, 5k, 10k or even 40k steps a day, this is measuring how many days out of the monthly total you can hit your goal.

 

Some might have a constant goal of 10k steps every single day and others might have a variable goal throughout the week, (and some might even plan days off!) for example.
Monday -> Friday = 10k steps a day
Sat & Sun = “6k steps a day,” or “not tracking”

 

Regardless of how you structure your daily goals, the only thing that matters for the monthly challenge is whether or not you reach what you set out to do.

 

Suggested Posting Format    
1) Post either your constant or variable step goal.
2) Keep track of the # of daily goals achieved out of the monthly minimum and or monthly total

The theme this August is a nod to wanderlust and the road (some will note this is a repeat from August last year).  My friend @NellyG suggests bridges and overpasses along the way, and water when you get there … or was it the other way around?  Well, post your goals below and post your pics throughout the month.

Although you certainly don’t have to post daily, you’ll likely stay closer to what you set out to do by updating the thread several times/week

 

Injury Notice
If you injure yourself during the month and need to scale back due to the injury, then all you have to do is adjust your goal for that period. If you normally do 10k steps a day but pull a hamstring and decide to do minimal walking (2k steps a day), then all you have to do is change your goal.

Day 5-6:

 

It's been a productive day 5 and 6 of the month.  25K steps on Wednesday and 20K yesterday.  I'm excited because all these extra steps have lowered the average I need each day to a more reasonable 15,196.  

 

Steps for August: 120,108/500,000

Steps Remaining: 379,892

Readjust August – Days 5 & 6 & 7

It is easiest for me to group my days to post - so I will be doing Saturday & Sunday; Monday & Tuesday; Wednesday, Thursday & Friday - posting 3 times each week works for me. I am enjoying reading all the daily posts and seeing photos. 

 

5,000 steps Monday-Friday:  5/21

7,500 steps Saturday-Sunday:  2/10

3 times each week strength training:  0/12 (better get started!)

increase my water intake & focus on healthy meals:  7/31 (doing an amazing job on this on)

Readjust August – Days 8 & 9 (Saturday & Sunday)

 

5,000 steps Monday-Friday:  5/21

7,500 steps Saturday-Sunday:  4/10 (got over 10,000 steps both days – lovely weather for walking and was able to pick up some needed items at store so the old “two birds with one stone” aspect)

3 times each week strength training:  1/12 (actually easier than I thought it would be!)

increase my water intake & focus on healthy meals:  9/31 (part of my August readjust is to be better about my food purchases, this includes planning meals for the week & prepping vegetables when I get them home so I have less waste – once things are peeled, chopped, scooped, sliced, & diced, I am much better about using them throughout the week!)

I am pretty new to the Fitbit Community - got my Fitbit Charge 3 as a New Year's present and wasn't sure about it since I have never worn a watch as an adult (previously I tended to kill them). Set it up and started wearing it in May (yes, changing things up takes some time - plus I had been out of town & quarantined due to Covid19). Decided to get serious about my Fitbit in June and started reading the Community Health & Wellness board in late July. This Challenge came at the perfect time. I am enjoying reading everyone's entries and seeing your photos. Great Group!
