Recenter December Step Challenge and Scavenger Hunt

Recenter December!

2022 is just around the corner, but before you get there take a breath, reflect, connect with your friends and family and take stock of all the things that went right this year. Have a drink or two, and a treat or two, and, of course, a walk/hike/run or two, or three, or more.

General monthly instructions are below, including the monthly picture scavenger hunt.

How It Works

The primary purpose of these monthly challenges is to keep track of your daily step goals for the month; though many of us track other things as well, like body weight exercises, sleep, trips to the gym, logging food, etc. This is not a competition to see who can do the most of whatever, instead it is a challenge to measure your consistency. So whether you do 1k, 5k, 10k or more steps a day, this is measuring how many days out of the monthly total you can hit your goal.

Some might have a constant goal of 10k steps every single day and others might have a variable goal throughout the week, (and some might even plan days off!) for example.
Monday -> Friday = 10k steps a day
Sat & Sun = “6k steps a day,” or “not tracking”

Regardless of how you structure your daily goals, the only thing that matters for the monthly challenge is whether or not you reach what you set out to do.

Suggested Posting Format
1) Post either your constant or variable step goal.
2) Keep track of the # of daily goals achieved out of the monthly minimum and or monthly total

Picture Scavenger Hunt

This month look for a holiday theme/meme while you are out and about and post at least three versions of the same scene/idea. Example: three different Santas, three different grinches, three different nativities.

Posting

Although you certainly don’t have to post daily, you’ll likely stay closer to what you set out to do by updating the thread several times/week

Injury Notice
If you injure yourself during the month and need to scale back due to the injury, then all you have to do is adjust your goal for that period. If you normally do 10k steps a day but pull a hamstring and decide to do minimal walking (2k steps a day), then all you have to do is change your goal.

Crazy week in Western NY - we were hit with a wind storm the day after the tornado hit Kentucky.  Our electricity has been out more than it has been on since Saturday.  In the grand scheme of things we really don't have anything to complain about.  I feel for everyone devastated by the recent weather events.

Thanks @Baltoscott  — since I didn’t develop any symptoms, I just waited it out (7 days). We have to wear masks in shops, etc. and use disinfectant.

Sorry about all the devastation in Kentucky, but also the wind storm in NY, @Carrie71 . Hope y’all get your electricity running normal (all the time) again soon.

Recenter December Day 13

They reinstated mask wearing while working out at the gym yesterday 😞  I don't mind it when I am on the weight machines but it does making running on the treadmill a challenge.  I am going to brave the cold today and talk the dog for a walk at lunch - it's currently 35F - hopefully it will warm up a bit in 3 hours.

Thanks @Jotex the electricity has been on since 3:15 yesterday afternoon and I have my fingers crossed that it stays on.  I am glad to hear you didn't develop any COVID symptoms.

Thanks, @Carrie71 me, too! Omicron is more contagious, but less menacing it seems. On Friday the Swiss govt will announce new restrictions, possibly a lockdown (or closure of some businesses, like discos and bars  — not that it would affect me). Here we go again.

I came very close to not meeting my step goal yesterday! Met a friend for lunch, did a little shopping, and came home.  With the fog (3rd day running), I was so sleepy, I laid down for a little nap. 2-½ hours later I had to rouse myself to get up, but immediately changed into my gym clothes and went into my office-gym-guest room and hit the trampoline and treadmill. Needless to say, I had a little trouble falling asleep later; but then slept til 7:00 (I usually wake at 4:00)! . 😅

@Jotex  The nap bit sounds like me.  I'll be watching a show, and close my eyes thinking, "I can still hear this".  I wake up usually about two hours later.  Never fails.  Guarantee that will happen daily when I am off for the holiday week.

Recenter December Days 14 and 15

Struggling to get to the gym this week.  I am super busy getting ready for the holiday and the gym seems to be the thing I always let slide.  We are hosting friends for dinner tonight and this weekend my husband and I are going away for an overnight.  I am looking forward to being able to sleep in a bed without a dog at my feet and a cat on my head! I hope to get some good scavenger hunt pictures as we are going to a Christmas festival.

I almost missed my step goal tonight too.  I was sitting around waiting for my wife to come downstairs so we could go to the neighborhood Christmas party, and when she started making dinner I realized, no, the party is tomorrow.  But it all worked out in the end with a dog walk around 10 pm.  Wife announced that it was her first night walk with the dogs since her knee replacement six weeks ago. She's been moving well since the end of week three and I didn't even realize this was the first time we walked the dogs together since the replacement.  Nice warm night for it too, an unseasonable 60 degrees.
