Hi most awesome community
To stay healthy:
Check the expiration date on the package when eating packaged foods, mostly taking foods without checking the expiration date, but it can be longer in the fridge or drawer and the expiration date can be about to expire or already expired for a longer time..
Some foods can be stored for a longer time (still eateable in a year), while other foods needing be consumed soon.. (in a few days)..
When a food being approaching the expiration date or a few days over, see if it still looks good or looks odd.. (when looking odd or something is of, throw it away & don't risk to eat it..). If it's longer expired, certainly throw it away, it isn't worth it, instead take something else, or see if wanting to eat a certain food, that there are available which aren't expired yet to eat.
Always, even if the expiration date isn't expired, but it looks odd, doesn't taste good.. take another one instead..
Enjoy all the noms you eat, have what you like in the moment whenever possible

I agree, @SunsetRunner! Sometimes, I have to examine things very closely before I determine if they're old or not. Some people I know are not in agreement about a certain situation when it comes to expired foods. I'll give you an example:
Say you open a carton of almond milk. The expiration date on the box says two months from now. I open it today and it says to drink the almond milk within two weeks. The expiration date is now two weeks from today. I have a couple of friends who still think that the two month date is the correct one - nope! I've tried to explain this to no avail!

Awesome post @SunsetRunner, very informative, I've had the bad experience to buy food without checking the expiration date (bad idea), it doesn't take much time and it's so important. Now I always check the date and I look for the product with the latest expiration date, but that looks good as well.

Absolutely @SunsetRunner and @babin, those are all great tips. It used to be very difficult for me to avoid junk foods, you have to go through a large process to finally realize you actually can live without them lol, maybe once in a while.
