Steps while biking?

I am a teenager, and often I will either run or bike to a friends or the store, etc. When I bike, it only counts one step for about every 10 pedals. I was just wondering if anyone else who bikes often has this happen to them too. I'm sure it's normal because the tracker probably doesn't sense full steps on a bike.

Yes, that's normal. You'll probably get a step if you hit a bump, but not otherwise while pedaling.

Exactly, from my average roads I ride on, I get about 70% of what would normally be steps, ie each foot going down.

Bigger issue though - the calorie burn based on incomplete steps and formula based on steps being walking or running - is totally incorrect for biking.

Now over to friends house - eh, no big whoop.

Start doing an hour as exercise - now need to manually log it for whatever average speed you did.

I always snap my band into my shoelaces... seems to give me reasonable credit for pedaling effort.

Thank you! That seems like a good idea, I'm going to have to try it.
