Stomping STEPtember 2022 — Step Challenge and Photo Scavenger Hunt

Fall arrives this month — the start of falling leaves and cooler temperatures in the Northern Hemisphere (soon I hope - very hot now!), and new green warmth in the Southern. It is a great time to get outside, stomp around, and get your steps

                                     

How It Works

The primary purpose of these monthly challenges is to encourage you to set and hit your daily step goals for the month; though many of us track other things as well, like body weight exercises, sleep, trips to the gym, logging food, etc. This is not a competition to see who can do the most of whatever, instead it is a challenge to measure your consistency. So whether you do 1k, 5k, 10k or even 40k steps a day, this is measuring how many days out of the monthly total you can hit your goal.

 

Some might have a constant goal of 10k steps every single day and others might have a variable goal throughout the week, (and some might even plan days off!) for example.
Monday -> Friday = 10k steps a day
Sat & Sun = “6k steps a day,” or “not tracking”

 

Regardless of how you structure your daily goals, the only thing that matters for the monthly challenge is whether or not you reach what you set out to do.

 

Suggested Posting Format    
1) Post either your constant or variable step goal.
2) Keep track of the # of daily goals achieved out of the monthly minimum and or monthly total

Although you certainly don’t have to post daily, you’ll likely stay closer to what you set out to do by updating the thread several times/week

 

Injury Notice
If you injure yourself during the month and need to scale back due to the injury, then all you have to do is adjust your goal for that period. If you normally do 10k steps a day but pull a hamstring and decide to do minimal walking (2k steps a day), then all you have to do is change your goal.

Thanks, Scott for asking.  I've been to the gym only once this week, but hope to go again on Friday.  Steps are all below 10K, but that will not be the case today, I WILL be walking inside today, for at least 4k steps.  I'm trying, but you know the saying 'the body is willing, but the spirit is weak'.  That applies to me, always has.  Thanks again.

Total of 500K Steps for September: 365,096 // 500,000

20 Days Over 15,000 Steps: 18 // 20

500 Floors: 511 // 500 

 

Fell behind this week on steps due to traveling for work and being stuck in conference rooms and airplanes. I'm hoping to make it up this weekend.  In order to reach my goal of 500K steps, I need to average almost 17K steps for the rest of the month. I have more travel and conference rooms next week, so my only opportunity to make up some steps is today, tomorrow, and Sunday morning (leave again Sunday afternoon). Crossing my fingers I can make it, but sometimes life gets in the way.

(A bit odd:  I posted this and then edited one item and it got a Mod flag on it - then disappeared!)

 

Minimum 40000 steps each day I'm at home /30

Thanks re the stone steps - the National Trust put these to help walkers but at the same time blending in well with the scenery.

Total of 500K Steps for September: 409,476 // 500,000

20 Days Over 15,000 Steps: 20 // 20

4 Days Over 20,000 Steps: 4 // 4

1 Day Over 30,000 Steps: 1 // 1

500 Floors: 572 // 500

 

I had a good Friday and Saturday. Over 20K both those days and that lowered my daily goal for the rest of the month to 15K. I'm crossing my fingers that I can hit 20K again today, but it'll be hard with more flights later today. I'll be cutting it close to the 500K, but I'm glad I reached all my other goals for the month.

 

We drove over to Rosemary Beach, FL yesterday. Here are some pictures from our day.

I didn't do all that well this past week.  Only 2 days out of seven over 10,000 steps.  On 4 days I came in under my own calorie weight limit.  I only made it to the gym once, instead of three.  Hopefully this week will go better.  I'm changing my daily schedule somewhat to make that more likely.  I think I will follow Scott's advice and post daily or every other day.  That might help me to keep going.
