I am looking for some recommendations for good walking/jogging shoes. I have been walking 3-5 miles a day on the treadmill. Currently I wear Skechers GOwalk which are comfortable while I walk, but afterwards I feel pain in my ankles and lower back. I have had a herniated disc in my lower back for about 20 years now.
Best AnswerIf you can, the best bet is to go to a specialist walking or running shoe store. They usually have some machines that can profile you feet/stride to determine if you land on your heels, pronate (roll your foot inward as you walk), etc. and then select a range of shoes and/or insoles for you to try.

I'm not a fan of Skechers, except as fashion. I too would ask at a store that sells good quality shoes for walkers and runners.
Best AnswerSketchers are terrible. All fashion and no science. Go to a sports or outdoor store and get properly measured, some good advice and the right product. Also personalised insoles fitted specificially for for you can help.
Unfortunately, the same is often true in the case of other 'big name' shoe manufacturers, like Nike. I ended up with plantar fasciitis which I attributed to not stretching enough......but it kept rearing its ugly head anytime I wore Nike 'Free' shoes. I changed to a mix of Asics and New Balance and had minimal problems since.
Best AnswerI agree on the Skechers not being great. I also agree with Asics and New Balance. They both make shoes for walking and for running/jogging. If you google it walking vs. running shoes you will find out the different between the two. You really shouldn't run/jog in walking shoes and running shoes really aren't for walking. I got a great pair of New Balance Walking shoes on Amazon for $26 so if price is a consideration, you can find them fairly inexpensive out there if you search. I really love my Asics for running, they have gel that is wonderful for my feet. I also tried Avia (I think that is what they are called) and those were not great for me at all. I also get my running shoes a 1/2 size larger than normal so as to have extra room to move forward while running, helps me out a lot, no sore toes.
Hope this helps!
