my fitbit doesn't know when I am riding my bike and no exercise is logged. Does this happen with others?
Keep up the good work everyone!

Well yes because it depends on your hand moving up and down to get a step reading. Exercise is still logged because your heart rate rises while you ride hopefully so you get cardio and calories burned readings .

@knickerknockers -- check your autotrack settings to make sure that bike riding is one of the activities your fitbit is set up to track. Also, check the time period. By default, fitbit will not automatically record an activity on the smart track list unless you do it for at least 15 minutes. You can shorten this period to 10 minutes.
Also, even if you've got it set up properly, Fitbits will can automatically detect a real outside bike ride (the movement and bounce of the bike are part of the motion the tracker senses that tells it you are riding a bike as opposed to doing something else). If you are on a stationary bike you will have to manually start and activity to record.
I hope that helps. Let us know if it fixes the problem.

@knickerknockersDepending on your Fitbit, Bike is an exercise shortcut. If that's possible I would use that and you have recorded your activity.
The auto track feature is a little inaccurate because when I do gardening, depending on the type and level of activity, my Ionic auto tracks Outdoor Bike and/or Sport..

@knickerknockers autodetection is a kinda tricky thing to get it right. Cycling I think is even more difficult as a set of wrist movements greatly depends on the surface, route and even bike itself. It's different when the pattern is pretty much regular like for running or walking. I left only Walking to autodetection and decided to turn this feature off for everything else. The reason for that is I have seen cycling autodetected when I was in the slow-moving car. There are other types of activities which are tricky similarily. Sometimes, my running was detected as elliptical. On a few occasions, I saw autodetection kicking in despite I started tracking exercise manually so I ended up with two exercises logged. Also, I want to use GPS tracking for cycling and autodetected exercise doesn't enable it. I would recommend not to rely upon autodetection. Autodetection is a nice feature, especially for simple walking but the issues you've got are pretty much expected due to the complexity of detection itself. Simply, you may rely on it when you don't care whether it's going to be detected correctly or not. If you want to be 100% sure it's there, start it manually. It doesn't take long to scroll to Exercise app and tap a button on screen 🙂 There is a valid reason to saying that if you want to have something done... I'm sure you know how it ends 😄
