Whe I use the elliiptical the fitbit counts those steps, then when I log the activity, I seem to get a double count of those steps and calories burned. But isn'tthe systems set up so you log your activities?
How can I eliminate this while still logging my active minutes, etc.

Thanks!
You can't.
Best AnswerI'm new to fitbit, using the flex model. I thought the system was double counting steps that I posted from my eliptical trainer. Your reply to an earlier question seems to address the double counting of steps however when I use the machine I'm burning calories based upon intensity level which could differ greatly from simply walking. Any thoughts on that?

First, manually entering elliptical doesn't allow adding steps, so not possible to double count steps anyway.
Steps the Fitbit saw are kept, while your manual entry replaces the calories.
And you are indeed correct, you can do the elliptical with so many variances to the machine settings, and to your form using it, that the hopes of having a step count not only correct, but then the formula for walking/running actually being correct for movement that isn't the same, are going to be pretty rare.
Actually, since elliptical is non-impact and can include upper body, hopefully anyone could do it with more intensity and calorie burn than walking would cause.
Hence the need to manually enter it. Also the reason the formula for walking/running the Fitbit uses is for level, flat, activity. You do decent incline, you burn more. Or pushing something, or carrying more weight, ect. All deserve manual entry if you want calorie burn better estimate, and therefore better chance of VAM time, if important to you.

Well HA! That solves my mystery.
I wondered how I went from averag-7k steps to 13k steps.
I logged my activity on the treadmill.
Pfffft.
It double counted. Boooo
If you logged it as walking or running, it should have replaced whatever steps, distance, and calories Fitbit had for that time.
Are you sure you got the time correct, which would indeed cause Fitbits steps to be there, and whatever a manually logged activity would add.
Also, I believe if you log it after midnight, it won't correct prior day, but I haven't tested that lately to see if still the case.

Best AnswerHi,
I just need some clarification.
I've been a flex user for quite some time and I have to putoff my flex whenever am not walking/running.
I found out that my calories are doubled whenever I log my elyptical session (when my flex was on my wrist).
for example: when i sync its 1000 cals (incl. the elyptical). And when I logged it manually (100cal per session), it added up to 1100 kcals right away.
Thanks for all your help 🙂
Best AnswerWhen you manually log a workout, or it syncs in a workout from 3rd part app, it replaces whatever calorie burn it came up with for the start time and duration the workout states.
So you need to check your time of the manually entered workout.
And where exactly are you looking to see this difference?
And what is the device syncing with?
And where are you manually logging at?
And what device are you using to be manually entering a cardio workout?
Best AnswerThanks for the help, Slysam. My Fitbit is also double counting when I log my treadmill time. It should be right around 6000 steps, but when I get off and log the activity into the app, it jacks my steps to over 12,000. I know that's not right. So I did what you said and manually added an activity without logging the distance. It still gave me credit for the calories burned, but didn't double count my steps. Much appreciated.
