Did you mean:

this is getting old, spend your time doing better things like exercising

just because you can not hit a certain average, it does not mean other people can not

someone who has the time and is relatively fit can hit 20k average per day no problems as others have said, but I find it strange that you all accuse the asain of cheating

so yes, on the odd day I hit 30/40k and? what do you know about me? nothing, that is what.

for your information, I am retired, so I have all day to so what I want, that is around 10 hours per day, taking away sleeping, eating, having a shower etc

even at a slow pace of 3000 steps per hour, that is 30000 steps per day, and going by the average persons pace of 6000 steps per hour, that is 60000 steps, so for someone that has the time, health and commitment, it is easily doable,so 6000 steps for 4 hours, guess what? that makes 24k

so argue all you want, or are you saying that for someone who is retired, in relatively good shape and with no commitments can not average 24k steps per day because you can not

and before you show yourselves up anymore, read my posts, look at my averages, do I do 50k every day? no, do I even average 30k/40k every day? no

for all you know I could be a London marathon runner etc

however I am an average guy that is retired so has plenty of time on my hands to so what I want, and instead of sitting on my backside accusing people of cheating whilst stuffing my face in with burger and chips, I choose to exercise instead when my feet, weather etc allows me to

so instead of accusing people, make use of that fitbit, if people want to cheat, then let them, they are only cheating themselves as many have already said, what has it got to do with you, other than making you feel big

my advise for your people? go get a life

for your information, a challenge has recently been brought up to do 2015 miles this year due to being the year 2015, that averages just over 5.5 miles per day, but by your reckoning then, everyone in that challenge must be a cheat

"Accusations" of cheating are for those who claim to have 80k+ step counts every day. Getting 20k in average is high, but perfectly normal (regardless of age) and achievable, same with 40k on the odd day. Your profile shows a normal pattern alternating higher and lower step days:

You were cheated by Fitbit, however, since they record your personal best as being 17,819 steps (on December 10th, 2014), while your profile for the last thirty days shows 14 days that are higher than that. They did grant you a badge for 40k steps in a a day. Go figure.

thanks, nice to know some people still have some sense

problem is that I have done the odd 30/40k and have been accused of cheating by numerous people, heck one person has been a member over a year....

it is not like I am constantly doing high numbers

normally I wouldn't give a hoot, but going by the forum posts etc, they are specifically targeting me

as I said in another post, a recent challenge to do 2015 miles by end of year has been brought up which averages just below 30k per day, which then suggests that it is possible, yet my daily average is below that and some people here do more than that, but no posts accusing them....

to be honest I couldn't care less now, if they want to continue accusing me then fine, all I will do is just leave the forums, and they can find someone else to help other people/newbies out, it is not like I am getting paid to be here, or that I get rewards etc for putting up high numbers by cheating, I am here by my own accord, and like to help people by nature, plenty of other fitbit forums I could go to

Maybe this is a stupid question....

But how do you even cheat? I guess I just don't understand how it's possible? Does a person just move their fitbit back and forth?

You can cheat by manually logging imaginary step-based activities, as I explained here. I was able to get 53k steps in just a few minutes (took me a bit longer as I was trying to replicate the real activities I had on my personal best day).

Of course, you and me probably don't see the point in doing this, but it seems there are people who think they can impress others with their unbelievably high daily/weekly step counts.

indeed, it isn't as though cheating is going to make the excess fat go away quicker, if it did, I'd stick it to a bus wheel lol

the whole point of the fitbit is to lose weight, with the rest being fun extras

so in reality, those that are not using it properly and are cheating have really just given fitbit money for nothing, and I am sure fitbit do not mind one bit

It's a popular reason for getting a Fitbit, but some are primarily interested in increasing their fitness and improving their health, not necessarily lose weight.

The 10k steps initiative was based on getting most people to log around 5 miles per day in their normal routine plus add exercise to achieve it, if needed. Anyone who walks around often for work in a day will get close to that. People hitting 50k steps would be logging 20 to 25 miles per day, which is not impossible, but not frequent unless they are UPS or USPS workers, etc, or heavy training athletes. I know many marathoneers who could hit it a few times a week, but not daily.

Anywho...I didn't even know cheating for steps was an issues as I don't really care. Venting on forums always makes me giggle a little though.

It is very possible to cheat. It is sad in my opinion. I have looked at the activitiy of certain individuals in the "top ten" categories and it is strange how some of them are mostly inactive during the week and suddenly in one day they obtained over 300,000 steps. I think it is safe to say that is highly unlikely. If you do the research you will find forums about how people have admitted that have cheated. They somehow feel good about themselves although they know they have not earned the steps taken on their fitbit devices. The people that are offended by those who doubt these results are probably some of the culprits. If you do the math, with some of these "high steppers," there is no way you are highly active for 8 continous hours per day.

if they want to cheat, then they are only cheating themselves, not as thought they will get fit any quicker

to be honest, I am thinking of pulling out of the groups that I am in that table the amount of steps done as I have started jogging on the spot instead of walking around the house, a bit more entertaining as I can watch the tv at the same time 🙂

I will obviously be doing more steps than those that are walking, and the last thing I want is another bought of accusations, at the end of the day, it is about me and losing weight and getting rid of the beer belly

These accusations of cheating are funny and sad at the same time.  As you say...lying about your activity won't make the fat go away.  It might be going to their heads to see themselves at the top of what's really an imaginary leaderboard.

My motivation is to get fit.  I'm going to drop out of the groups where you're compared to others but your placing is wholy dependent on who joins, who runs vs. walks, and who plays fair.  I think the best way for me to proceed is to find friends that do similar exercise, are in a similar range (10-15K) and try to push each other to "step" up our game.

some posters say they average almost 20 and that anyone doing over that is cheating....

funny thing is, to average 20k, you need to either do 20k everyday, which according to them is not possible, so you are then doing under and over to make that average, so what they are saying then is that they themselves are cheaters....

if you walk say 15k for a few days, then 20k a few days every week, maybe a few days 10k, then to actually average 20k for the month would mean you would have to do over 20k a few times to pull up the average

why this post? because a poster said that they average just under 28k, yet then said anyone doing 28k+ is cheating..... I highly doubt said person is doing just under 28k everyday, so they must be doing over 28k sometimes to pull up their average, which then means they must be cheating also.

at the end of the day, a person who is sat down whilst working all day is going to do less steps during work time than someone who is one their feet during work hours, if then the person sat down all day is inactive after work, and the acrive person during work is acrive after work, it goes without saying that then the active person is going to have a much higher step rate

this is suppose to be a friendly and supportive forum, granted, competition is always going to be around, but to start calling people cheaters because you do not or can not do the same amount of steps is just pathetic

as another example, take two footballers, a midfielder and a goal keeper, who is going to do more steps?

the midfielder obviously, but is it right for the goal keeper to expect to do the same amount of steps? because they can not, is it right for them to call the midfielder a cheat because they are doing more steps than them?

what about a student getting straight A's compared to another student only getting C's, are they cheating? or could it be that they are brighter and/or put studying time in? or in this case, have more spare time/are fitter

tbh, all these accusations flying around is getting boring and the mods need to start clamping down, or people are just going to not bother with the forum

if you look at the accusers, strangley enough, nearly all, if not all their posts are accusing people

strangely enough, the groups are not the issue, at least not for me, but the forum itself, where certain members are fixated on accusing people

if chucking the fitbit in a washing machine/dryer, attaching to a dog etc burns the fat quicker etc, we'd all do it! at the end of the day, people are buying the fitbit to get fitter, burn fat etc, so if some people are lying just to be top of a chart, then they need more than physical help, they need mental help....
