Smoothie recipe

Santa brought me a generic magic-bullet blender type of thingy. My plan is to make healthy smoothies so that I can increase my consumption of fruits and veggies. Im looking for some simple, healthy recipes. Id especially like recipes that include vegetables -- been reading about "super green smoothies" but there are a bazillions suggestions. So please post your yummy (or semi-yummy) smoothies recipe. Thx

i take greek yogurt and put it in ice cube trays and freeze them. I also cut up bananas and freeze those in baggies..

In the morning, I'll either add a handfull of berries, frozen bananas, spinach, carrots, and a couple cubes of frozen yogurt to the blender or my favorite which is a few cubes of frozen yogurt, frozen bananas, some cocoa powder and PB2. You could do almond milk, but i'm allergic 🙂

I have just started smoothies and I have been making the green one that you mentioned. The only difference, I add 1 tbsp of peanut butter for protein. I would love to exchange recipes. Hopefully I will drop some weight replacing one meal with a smoothie.

I know this is a year old post but this interest me. I bought a new Blendtec blender. Just learning what

to throw in it.

When you use bananas from the freezer you take the skin off and cut it up before you put in freezer

bags? Making a smoothie for breakfast is all you eat? Are you satisfied? Or do you have something else to eat as well?

And when doing most veg. for an evening meal is that all you eat? Or is this part of your meal at night?

I am not crazy about green veg. so I thought this is one way to get that in my diet. Costco added fruit to the green veg. so the taste was pretty good.

Am looking forward to making soups with it.

Also if you have anything left over from the juicer do you freeze it ? Or just throw it back into the refrigerator? So far we have drank it all and had nothing left over.

Hey there @JerriAnn ! I'll be glad to elaborate on this Cat Happy

I have found a link on WikiHow that will give you all the 'Peeling Bananas' information, you can freeze them peeled, whole or in chunks. You can see here  what may be most convenient for you.

On a personal note, a smoothie for breakfast usually keeps me satisfied but I don't blend on a day to day basis; to get more variety for breakfast. I do not do smoothies for dinner time since I'd rather have its savory chewable equivalent Smiley Tongue Also, I would not recommend to freeze the smoothie; since many of it's properties may be lost in the oxidization process and the taste will not be the same. However, eHow has plenty of techniques on how to prevent this from happening and store smoothies for 24 hours up to a month. Please check this link.  On another note, Yummi Pouch is a reusable and kid friendly smoothie pouch, as well as another way to carry smoothies avoiding bulk.

Last but not least, my favorite soup recipe from Real Simple Magazine here, Cauliflower Soup with Toasted Garlic which is heavenly and 111 calories a serving! Smiley LOL

I am new to this “smoothie” stuff too and when I have one for breakfast, I find that is really all I need because they are very filling. I don’t have one every morning because I love oatmeal. So when I have oatmeal for breakfast, I try to have a smoothie for lunch. To be honest, I think there are too many calories to have a smoothie for a snack. Hopefully I will drop a few pounds doing this routine. Now that the holidays are over, I have no excuse so I am going to stick with it.

Hi,
I see that someone else answered your question about bananas, which is good, because I don't know. I'll check out her answer.

If I am having only a smoothie for breakfast, I add protein powder. I know that there are differing opinions on this, but I have been taught that protein at breakfast helps with concentration and will help keep you full. You don't need a lot and I would add it in after the smoothie is blended because if you put it in with everything else, I find that it can get a little gummy.

I wouldn't freeze the smoothie, but I have read that if you seal it up tight and put it back in the fridge it will be ok for about 24 hours. You will lose some of the nutritional content, but it will still be worthwhile drinking.

I love making soups and certain ones I like pureed (cauliflower, tomato and roasted red pepper, squash...)

Enjoy

this is one way I get my green veg. I am wondering with the fruit smoothie am I getting too many

calories? I love fruit so I am not sure I would make it all into  smoothies. But I am not crazy about

nuts and green veg. I see alot of you add fruit to the veg.

I am concerned about the calories when using a lot of fruit.

Fair enough, although I would worry more about the sugar, which is why I tend to try to keep to two portions of fruit a day. You can also just do a veg smoothie, kind of like a V8, finding the right balance of veg and using worsteshire sauce (spelled wrong) , salt and maybe hot sauce as long as you are not restricted by sodium.

Try adding dates!  They add a nice sweetness!  Here is my recipe for 2 people:

4 cups of green regular Kale

1 banana

2-3 dates

2 TBLS almond butter

2 1/2 cups unsweetened almond milk

We feel like we can't live with out one in the morning!  It holds me over until mid-morning.  I love my vitamix!!!

They are so easy and so healthy, I always start with spinach and broccoli and apple and kiwi, after that it's pretty much whatever I have around. I recently started adding  unflavored protein powder and I can really tell the difference in my energy level. I use zero calorie  flavored green tea for the liquid.

I have all that here so I am going to try it. Just veg. didn’t appeal to me at all. I think adding the fruit will help the taste of it.
You make any soups with it? and like it?
