Inspire 3 inaccurate

I often do workouts on the peloton app which automatically upload to my Fitbit app but Fitbit is consistently so off! If peloton says I ran 2.0 miles Fitbit will be anywhere from 1.6-1.8 miles (I run the same exact route over and over but it’s never consistent). My husband has a whoop and it’s spot on with what peloton says. Also, I take my Fitbit off while I’m in the operating room and it’s in my pocket — several times I’ve gotten “low heart rate detected” and I don’t even have it on. Just today I had heart rate of 160 detected at the time I also was not wearing it.

Anything I can do? Are all Fitbit devices like this?

Hi, @Gmthatch with ref to the heartrate, in order to avoid phantom measurements there is a setting on your Fitbit to indicate that it is not being worn on the wrist.  From the clock face screen on your Inspire 3 swipe down to find the “on wrist” setting and tap to select to indicate it is being worn on the body instead.

As for distance, there are two ways that the Inspire 3 calculates distance.  If you have your phone with you, and GPS turned on in your settings the Fitbit connects to your phone and uses the phone’s GPS chip to calculate distance.  If GPS is not turned on, or you do not have your phone with you, or the GPS signal fails to connect or becomes disconnected part way through (usually due to environmental issues such as high buildings or significant tree cover) then the Fitbit will revert to a calculation of stride length x number of steps to calculate distance.  This is always going to be an approximation, and variations are bound to occur, as no one’s stride length is exactly uniform.  Fitbit automatically calculates your stride length based on averages for your height, age and sex.  If your distances seem consistently wrong it may be worth editing this setting.  You can find information of how to do this here .

The Inspire 3 does not have a built in GPS chip and therefore it requires your phone’s chip and a continuous connection between your phone and the Fitbit.  More advanced Fitbit models incorporate a GPS chip and may give you more accurate distance results.  To see which Fitbits have a GPS chip go to the Fitbit store (there is a link to the store on the top right hand side of every page here in the Community Forums) and use the compare tool.

I hope this helps.  Welcome to the Community Forums!

Any activity tracker of whatever brand will only give me/you an approximation of what you have it tracking. I do not expect them to agree since I only need an approximation of what I am doing. It's purpose is to encourage me to do more. If I look at it mid-day and it only says 2000 I really need to get off my butt! Have I really done only exactly 2000? Not likely. Since there is breakfast, lunch and endless computer work mixed in to that, but i KNOW I have not done 8000. Or anywhere near that. It is a helper tool. Not a precise god.
