Resting Heart Rate

Is anyone else having trouble with the RHR readings? My RHR has apparently crept up over the past two months but when I look at my actual readings, I can’t see why. For example today it’s calculated my RHR as 69 despite it only having reached 69 very briefly when I’ve been active. Surely it should be 60 or 61 at most (which is what it usually is) from this chart. Is my Fitbit broken?

Hello @JB1JB2 and welcome to the Community.  Fitbit calculates your RHR using all your heart rate data at rest, both awake and asleep.  How much of this graph is you sleeping?  Your heart rate should be lower than your resting heart rate when you are asleep.  I think your Fitbit is working as expected.

Thanks gif the reply. I woke just before 6. The peak just after 6 is me getting up to make coffee after lying in bed 20 mins or so. When I was lying in bed (awake and correctly logged) my RHR was 59 or so. After my coffee, my HR was still only 62 or 63. So how my RHR is calculated at 69 is still beyond me!

@JB1JB2   I apologize if I'm misinterpreting what you wrote.  The data that is used for RHR doesn't reset at midnight like steps and distance.  Fitbit doesn't give specifics, but I suspect the algorithm looks at the last 24 hours of data.

Fitbit recommends wearing your Fitbit while you sleep to calculate RHR.  There are users who just can't sleep with something on their wrist.  Fitbit calculates their RHR on available data.

Yes I wear it 24 hrs a day. I only take it off in the shower. The previous day’s data includes no period of time where my heart rate was 69 or above at rest. For the past two months or so it’s been calculating my RHR a good 5-10 beats higher than usual but looking at my data day to day (and looking at my heart rate when I’m resting and awake) there’s no reason for it. My actual heart rate graphs are the same as usual but the RHR has risen for some reason.
