What does the “all day sync” setting do? I don’t see an difference on or off. Does it eat battery life?

According to fitbit when all day sync is on:
"When your phone is near your Fitbit device with Bluetooth turned on, it periodically syncs with the Fitbit app to update your stats and download available firmware updates"
They recently removed the option on android phones (with all day sync on by default and cannot be turned off) because "More frequent syncing rarely, if ever, noticeably decreases your device’s battery life"

I just noticed the setting was gone and then searched in this forum to find out this useful information.
I wonder if Fitbit has mentioned this setting removal in its Fitbit app update log? Otherwise I'm sure this would confuse quite a number of users.
