Woke up with a “clock error” this morning, telling me to download a new clock. Why? Seems like something got updated in the night.
New clocks won’t download either.

Have you tried restarting your device? Just hold down the bottom right and left buttons for 10 seconds. Once the Fitbit logo appears, you've successfully restarted it.
My guess (and this is purely a guess) is that there is some sort of bug that your device is experiencing. Mine didn't do that this morning.

Thank you. Something worked although it took a while. Then the new clock face appear the next day (since changed back to the original choice). I think it was possessed for a day or so.
